swelly belly....bowels....and metamucil???

Ok, on one of the threads about swelly belly, someone mentioned their doctor recommending Metamucil to help with their swelly belly, and that it helped some...

Who was that?? And did it really help?

My bowels are still not quite right, i either seem to have the runs or it is hard to go....could Metamucil help me?

I am 9 weeks post op (TAH/BSO bikini incision)

For some, metamucil works wonders. For others, like me, too much fiber just makes things worse. Check with your doctor if you are still having bowel problems.

I use Benefiber every morning. This started a couple of years ago when they thought my bowel problems were IBS. I was really skeptical. The last thing I wanted was something that moved me! It really has helped. It helps the stools to form, so I rarely have an attack of diarrhea any more.

Unfortunately, I still have a day every now and then when I can't get out of the bathroom. Just a ton of BMs. (My best friend always told me I was full of it. I guess that was true!)

Milk of Magnesium helps me when it gets bad. But also will use benefiber.

EKlasn, why are you shocked?

I never had bowel problems until this surgery. I eat high fiber cereal most mornings but still have to take miralax several times a week to be able to go.

my issue seems to be problems with loose stools more often than not...

Activia seems to have a bad effect on those of us with loose stools! It's a big help if you're constipated or irregular. If you try a probiotic, be sure to find one that is designed for your problem. Lots of the ones that are advertised are more for the slow digestive track.

I've heard a lot of women develop IBS after surgery. I sure hope that's not true. One of things I was hoping to rid myself of was the bowel issues.
