LAVH: Not feeling ready...

Hi all,

Glad to have found this forum! I have hysterectomy coming up in about 6 weeks and am feeling increasingly sad. What a difficult decision! I know this is the right thing for me to do for myself and for my family, because I am positive for the breast cancer gene, but I'm continuing to struggle with it. I would love to hear what may have worked for some of you in terms of dealing with the emotional impact of this surgery.

I'm feeling the same way ... I feel goofy to feel the way I do because I know this is the best thing for me, but I can't seem to help it. I just try to laugh at myself and occupy my mind with other things.

I'd love some advice too. I'm scheduled for a hysterectomy and oophorectomy next week (borderline ovarian cancer at 39) and I'm not eligible for HRT and I'm just terrified: what's the rest of my life going to be like? The list of menopausal symptoms that people get without HRT is kind of terrifying. I'm scared I'm going to ruin the rest of my life, however long it is. Has anyone who's been through it got any advice? I hope it's not going to be as bad as I'm scared it might be...
