Sit or lay down?

I am two days post op and home. I know I am supposed to rest rest rest ... But not sure if I.e. sitting and watching TV is considered resting or should I have my feet up ? Or is it better to lie on a couch to watch TV or read ? My thought is that sitting puts more strain on abdominal a maybe? I feel better than I expected to and can do either , but looking for any advice as to what might be best. Thx

Re: Sit or lay down?

From my experience sitting in a recliner w a pillow for my back and my legs up was easier on my stitched up belly. Elevating your legs will also help with blood flow. This along with a little walking can help prevent blood clots. Lastly, be careful of low blood pressure and dizziness especially if you are laying in bed a lot. Always get up nice and slow so you don't get dizzy and fall. Hope this helps and good luck on your recovery

Re: Sit or lay down?

I mostly sat on the couch and watched tv, with a pillow for a headrest. If you sit up without a headrest, that would cause some strain to your body. I also walked around the house at regular intervals.
The daytime talk shows got me through my recovery. Lol

Re: Sit or lay down?

I found sitting on the couch caused pressure on the cuff, so sitting on the couch, with feet up helped much more... wish i had a recliner, but if you do, use it.. i bet its the best position, i try to achieve it in bed...haha...

Re: Sit or lay down?

I sit in the recliner, walk around, make frequent trips to the bathroom and when I start to feel "drained" I go lay down for a while. As little as 30min can make a huge difference!

Re: Sit or lay down?

Sitting for me was very uncomfortable. So I laid down way more. Or at least had my feet up to take the pressure off of "down there". After about 3 weeks it was much better to sit. Hang in there!!! Blessings!!

Re: Sit or lay down?

Hi Alice I think if your feeling good doing both, do what makes you comfortable, I laid down a lot the first week, even ate my food on my bed with my back propped up on pillows because sitting in a chair was just so darn uncomfortable, I would sit in chairs for like 5 minute intervals during the day just to put my body in a different position. Since I was alone for part of my recovery kids were in school and stuff standing up to do dishes or kitty litter cleaning would be enough, my body would say you did enough lady go lie down. Very important to remember is you are only 3 days post op, you might be feeling really good don't try to do too much, it can set you back, then you will be stuck in bed for a couple of days feeling like crap. Be good to yourself and take it nice and easy, take care xoxo
