Hi soulsista,

It sounds like you are pretty miserable

Have you been told that you have endometriosis? It can be the source of many of the symptoms you describe ... painful intercourse, painful ovaries, nausea and vomiting, etc. As for your uterine lining being so thick ... I would ask for a copy of the operative and pathology reports to verify the measurements ... but in any case, a thickened uterine lining could be due to adenomyosis (sort of like endometriosis, but it's inside your uterus). There are other conditions that can cause a thicker uterus too ... has your gyn told you what he/she thinks the cause is?

Before you make a decision about surgery, it's always smart to get at least one other opinion. You need to confirm the diagnosis and best treatment plan for your situation.

As for your ovaries ... sometimes ladies do leave it up to their surgeons to decide what to do about the ovaries once the surgery has started. If you have endometriosis, many gyns will recommend removing your ovaries as an additional preventative measure to ensure that no endo will grow back. But you are young and if your endo is not too severe, your gyn might suggest you keep your ovaries. Without them, you probably will need to consider taking estrogen. Your family history will be an important factor ... if there is a history of breast cancer or if you have a blood clotting factor, estrogen may not be a good choice for you.

I know this is stressful, having to evaluate all your treatment options and not knowing for sure what is the best choice. Keep reading, keep asking questions and we'll do our best to provide support whatever you decide. Let us know how you are doing and what you decide about treatment. Sending gentle hugs your way.
