I went to my hematologist today, I have a blood clotting disorder and take blood thinner on a daily basis to prevent clots. So he is very involved in my upcoming hysterectomy on March 26.

After he told me what needed to be done to help prevent the clots during and after surgery. I asked him about HRT, he just laughed and said forget about taking anything.

Where can I find information on herbal or natural help for this in case I may need it

I think that you should start by discussing it with your gyn. He/she may have some helpful suggestions. It is good to keep your dr aware of anything that you're taking at any rate

Are you able to take SSRI's like Zoloft? My doctor told me last week that Zoloft (an antidepressant) is frequently prescribed for women who can't take HRT because it masks menopause symptoms. I had been having some early symptoms such as occasional hot flashes and night sweats, but they stopped when I was started on Zoloft several months ago.

We have a collection of resources for women who cannot take HRT, including some information on herbs. You may find this a good place to learn what you need.

Thanks for the information, I have been dealing with hot flashes for years. I've actually gotten quite used to them. And sometimes they come in really handy is Wisconsin.

I have Grave's Disease so I'm not sure if it is from the Graves or pre-menopause. I come from a family of Auto Immune Hell. I guess what I am most worried about are the mood swings, I also had them with the Grave's Disease until I had surgery on my thyroid. I am usually a very easy person to get along with. Not a mean bone in my body, but I can be a real witch with mood swings.

I'm in Wisconsin, too, and I know what you mean about hot flashes sometimes being a good thing--especially yesterday and today! I hope all your doctors are able to work together to figure out what is best for you.
