Anyone have 2 surgeries back to back?

Hi!
I am getting really scared for my LAVH (I think thats what it is) or maybe just LVH! Anyways, I just had knee surgery last week and am healing from that. I have had a tough time with pain, I am a wimp! Now here in 4 weeks I am having my hysterectomy. Has anyone had 2 surgies within 6weeks of each other? I am thinking that the hysterectomy will be worse because thats considered a major surgery. The doctors know and said I will be fine it just seems like alot to put your body through in such a short amount of time.
Do you know what the norm for recovery is for a hysterectomy. When can you usually start lifting things? My hubby is only going to be home for about 12 days after my surgery, he has to leave to go out of town and I have 4 kids. Should he cancel or do you think I will be ok 12 days post op? Thanks for your replies in advance. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Re: Anyone have 2 surgeries back to back?

I had a TAH/BSO on Jan 25th. I have had 3 surgeries in 8 months (spinal fusion, gall bladder and abdominal hysterectomy). I was more tired after the TAH but other than that it was no big deal. My gall bladder was in Nov so I had about 8 weeks between 2 abdominal surgeries. During my gall bladder surgery is when they found other issues requiring a complete hysterectomy rather quickly.

I tend to deal well with pain. I was back at work 2 weeks after the surgery. You are the only one that can answer the question if you will need your DH to cancel his trip.

I was limited to lifting only 10 pounds for 6 weeks. But I had the abdominal surgery & I think that has more restrictions since they cut your stomach muscle all the way across your abdomen..

Re: Anyone have 2 surgeries back to back?

I am 9 weeks post op today and doing extremely well. I had my surgery Jan 12, of this year. I also had surgery 8 weeks prior to my Tah on Jan 12. I was scheduled to have my TAH Oct 20 which didn't happen. I was opened up bikini cut and stapled right back up. I had to much scar tissue. My unterous was fused to my bladder and my bowels so the GYno didn't want to chance taking my uterous out when he couldn't see where my bladder ended and my bowels started. It was hard to know I had to go through another surgery so soon, but I am glad I did it now. I now have a horizontal incision down past the bikini cut I received in Oct. Kind of look like a patch quilt but I am doing so well. The first few weeks are abit difficult and I am so lucky my DH and son were here to look after me.

Any surgery is scarey, but I look at the end result and that's feeling so much better then I did before any of my surgerys.

Best of luck. Take a day at a time and try and relax.

I do wish I wouldn't have had the first surgery flop for me. I would now be almost 5 moths post op, instaed of 9 weeks.

Re: Anyone have 2 surgeries back to back?

I had TVH 10/09 and minimal pain. I was on lifting restriction for 4 wks due to internal stitches, not pain. My next surgery is next wk so I can't answer that part. Sorry yours are so close, but they told me the VH's don't have much pain and that was true for me so good luck.

Re: Anyone have 2 surgeries back to back?

i am right now 4 weeks post-op from a laproscopic surgery to cut adhesions and remove endometriosis and am having my hysterectomy in 3 weeks from today. i have healed fine from the first surgery, so i'm not worried about having to heal from 2 at the same time. 16 years ago though i had a c-section, was awake long enough to see my son and then put under for an open gallbladder surgery. that was a terribly difficult recovery as i had 2 separate incisions at the same time to deal with and had individual recovery issues with each surgery. it worked out though, just took longer to heal.

Re: Anyone have 2 surgeries back to back?

I had two abdominal surgeries...the second one (TAH) 5 weeks after my RSO. Its doable...but the recovery time might be a little longer. I was out a total of 12 weeks (6 weeks for each surgery). I probably could have gone back to my desk job after 4 weeks, but because I had the other surgery they were being extra cautious. I'm glad I had those two extra weeks. I was certainly wiped out!

Re: Anyone have 2 surgeries back to back?

I had a myomectomy 21 Oct 09. Requested to keep my uterus because I hadn't had any children. After the doctor got in there I had 900 grams of fibroids he had to remove and then try to repair my uterus which they normally take if fibroids weigh over 300 grams. Experienced alot of pain and was out of work for 11 weeks. Healing didn't seem to be coming so we decided to do a TAH which I had on 3 Mar 10. Outside of prescription medicine not really taking away the pain I think I've come through both surgeries okay. I see my doctor weekly due to the amount of pain I'm in. He's trying to ensure everything is okay. Took X-rays on last visit. I see him tomorrow hoping for good news.

Hang in there everyone.

Re: Anyone have 2 surgeries back to back?

tyh66,

Sorry to hear about your loss of your UT. My heart goes out to you! I don't know if your doctor told you, but there is an awful lot of inflammation that can occur when you have your type of surgery. I was also in a lot of pain after both of my surgeries. My doctor suggested taking pain meds and an anti-inflammatory like advil or ibuprofen of some type to help aid in the healing process. Hope you get good news when you see your doc next!
