Feeling out of place here -- I feel fine

I am brand new here, and I confess that I'm feeling out of place after looking around a bit. I had a robotic LAVH on July 8, and by the 4th day post-op, my energy was good, and I was moving around well enough to spend 4 hours out shopping with a family member. Since then, you can't keep me home for very long.

I live alone, and the family member who stayed with me the week of surgery is long gone. I returned to work after two weeks (I have a desk job), although by the fourth day back, I was very tired and called in sick. But since then, I've been just fine. This weekend, I'm even planning to return (cautiously) to my volunteer job, which involves hours of standing.

I dunno, I just feel like a freak for being so resilient. Believe me, I am far from toned and fit, so that's not it. I do eat pretty healthy and take lots of vitamins and supplements, but exercising is not my thing. I am dealing with an increasing number of hot flashes, if that's any consolation.

That's great that you've recovered so well. Everyone heals differently. As long as your doctor has given you the go ahead, enjoy getting back to whatever activities make you happy.

I'm envious! I'm still pretty much stuck on the couch. But good for you - I don't think it's weird or anything ... everybody heals differently. Seems I remember a couple of other people around here that healed really well also. Just be sure you're not pushing it ... take care of you - it's OK to take a break!

Georgia3104,
I have been healing well too. I'm still surprised at how low my stamina is, but I've done remarkable well. I think It's important to post how well you are doing so that those just starting the procss know its not always a dificult recovery. Having said that I believe the women who have had a fast recovery are sunbathing on the beach and returning to their normal lives and don't need to be posting here. Wishing you continued health!!

Feeling out of place here -- I feel fine

Hi there Georgia,

Just wanted to you to the site, and say that I think it is wonderful that you are/have recovered so marvelously! It is indeed important to share the upside of life after hysterectomies, and you do fit in here...please don't feel out of place. Not only are there many other areas on the site to check out, as Jessica said, but you can also be a valued source of info for those just starting here who have pre-op questions in that forum. There are many, many ways to contribute here, and just sharing your success story is one of them!

Again, I am so very glad that you are doing so well, and I wish you the very best. Please take care.

Sincerely, Trish

Georgia - I think its awesome. Hysterectomies (the severity and recovery) are going to be quite different because they are really such different operations. I think its good for those waiting to get feedback on short recoveries too....right? I would just remember that support forums are often LEAST visited by those who are doing super-well. Sad, I think....because it sometimes skews impressions when folks come to find information. But it is always welcome news.

I had a TAH/BSO and have a 9 inch incision. My doctor has been involved in some state of the art procedures....but my fibroid issue was not a good match for anything but the traditional. My recovery seems to be going QUITE well....but because it was a TAH and the masses removed, I doubt I will be allowed into the office anytime soon.

Just take it easy and don't push too hard....I already thought I could do more than I should and had a couple of days setback (and LOL....it was from running to a shoe store for my daughter).

Feeling out of place here -- I feel fine

Hi, all. I'd like to add my 2 cents, too! I am 57-years old and certainly NOT fit (let's just say I am ummmm, "fluffy"), but I did do a some walking pre-surgery. I have an 8" vertical incision and 11 days post-op (TAH, including some lymph nodes), I can do just about ANYthing. I feel great except for the itch of the incision and the ultra-sensitivity of the area, maybe because of the staples?

We go on the 5th for my post-op, and I truly hope and expect to be given the green light to drive (and therefore work; I am a real estate appraiser) by the 4th week. I can twist my torso fully, bend, squat, etc. (although slowly and gently)

My darling husband vacuums and loads/unloads the lower level of the dishwasher, carries the laundry basket to the laundry, etc. and once I can convince my church family to STOP bringing dinners, I am confident about being able to cook again. I even hand-watered my garden last night.

I would LOVE to be able to talk to some pre-op women and give them whatever confidence I can. I am so saddened by the stories I have read here and on other websites about younger women going through this and having to deal with not only recovery but of course all the issues involved in losing their child-bearing abilities. I was infertile (MAYBE due to my condition; we may never know...) so dealt with that loss many years ago.

Come to think of it, the only thing I can't do right now is sleep on my side ... which has precluded 'spooning' with the DH. Well, there IS one other thing we can't do yet ... but we are really looking forward to that, too! Ha. Am off all Rx drugs and use MotinIB only as needed.

So come on, sisters ... let me hear from you. I am no superwoman...just very, very blessed.

Please do not feel badly about doing well!! I am one of the very slow healers and it does help to see the gamut of experiences. A little bit of hope and something to shoot for!! Congrats and continued healing well

Thanks everybody. I'm feeling better now about being here, and I will definitely look around some more and offer support in the pre-op forums. I do have some questions to post about specific issues. Appreciate your encouragement and words of advice.
