Pain from iv???

So I've had a sore wrist now for about the past 4-5 days.. It's the wrist of the hand where I had my iv for 3 days . My and never really got sore, but m wrist s really tender. I'm wondering if it could be from the iv or if I did something else to it?? Like maybe leaning on it too much??? Or maybe it's sore from textng on my iPhone so much???

Wha do ya think??

Re: Pain from iv???

Hey,
I have the same thing. I am like 3 weeks tomorrow post op and still have a tender/sore vein where IV was. The toradol they gave me post op really hurt going in and apparently did some damage to my vein. Try some warm compresses they say it helps. I am an RN and to the best of my knowledge it will heal in time. Good luck.

Re: Pain from iv???

Thx December for the response. Glad to know that this tenderness is warranted.. Lol... Oh, the things that have popped up post-op that they never warn you about...

Re: Pain from iv???

I am still sore and tender in my wrist where the IV was for 3 days. I am 3 weeks post op on Thursday. My hand swelled up and they had to redo the IV in another location - that one is fine. Hang in there, it will get better!

Re: Pain from iv???

Is just strange cause it doesn't hurt on my hand where it actually was.. Not even a bruise.. But the wrist is sore... glad to know I am not alone...

Re: Pain from iv???

ditto what December said. I questioned the pain and lump in my forearm (where my IV was) and they said it was from the Toradal. I felt that stuff going in and it burned! It worked great though.

Re: Pain from iv???

The last thing I remember before the surgery was saying 'ow, that hurt...' about the stuff they gave me as they rolled me into surgery.

My IV was not in a normal place...it was on the back of my left hand an inch below where my index and second fingers intersect. I still do not know WHY they cannot put the blooming needle someplace more stable than a constantly moving surface! Just does not make sense! I keep being told that putting it elsewhere presents other problems such as the veins being too deep...

My hand ached a good solid week after surgery and wimpy drugs did not help. I think it was close enough to the nerves to my fingers that it irritated the nerves.

I certainly sympathize with your plight.

Re: Pain from iv???

That's exactly where mine was at first (for 4 days). The last day they had to move it... Tried the underneath parr of my forearm and totally missed and I am still black and blue from that one .. They then put it on the underside of my other forearm which is fine and healed now.. Maybe the first site still hurts cause it was there for 4 days. Oh well. This too shall pass.
