1 week post hysterectomy: How much is too much?
Hello all, I am 1 week post op from a TLH with salpingectomy, I still have both ovaries. My question is, I feel awesome with hardly any pain so I've been doing some light house work and tons of walking, but no lifting at all. Is that ok? I don't want to do too much and hurt myself, but I also want to get up and go to speed up recovery. I have a 2 year old, so total rest isn't really an option, but I can scale back activities if I need to. Thanks in advance, I'm glad to have somewhere to come for help!

If you're feeling "awesome with hardly any pain," then it sounds like you're doing something right. :-) I had minimal pain and was fairly active during recovery myself. I couldn't lift or bend but, like you, did tons of walking and took care of myself and my cats. Some sisters have more complicated recoveries and *do* need "total rest," but not everyone does.

I was the same, felt great and was very active, but careful to follow my Drs restrictions. I did light housework, cooked, walked a ton and went on a lot of outings. I had a smooth recovery with no complications.

Re: How much is too much?
I was still very active right out of the operation room, I didn't slow down one bit and I had soooo many setbacks and issues from not following doctors orders and constantly being on the go. I rested none. I say, pace yourself and your body will let you know if you're doing too much. Listen to your body.

Re: How much is too much?
Our bodies are amazing at communicating with us when we do too much. If you have increased spotting, pain, swelling or fatigue these may be signs you're over-doing. It's fine to walk and do light housework as long as you are following doctors orders, rest when you're tired and scale back if you over-do. I imagine not lifting your 2 year old is one of the most difficult restrictions! Stay strong
