Upcoming hysterectomy 4/12: In so much pain/period every 14 days

I'm not sure what's wrong. I had an endometrial ablation w/Novasure back in 2009 to stop the heavy bleeding that was making me anemic. It was great for the first 8-9 months. Little to no bleeding, no life-altering cramps. Next thing I knew, it had turned into moderate bleeding and some discomfort--Still no big deal. Fast forward to last year around the holidays and I'm having cramps that remind me of labor pains. I'm vomiting, and bleeding like the ablation never happened.
My GYN suggested the hysterectomy to correct the problem since I needed to have my bladder prolapse fixed as well it seems like the right thing to do.
Ever since I've been scheduled for surgery, it seems like everything is so much worse! My period never goes away. I'm bleeding for 7-10days every 2weeks, leaving me with about 8-12 days period free. I'm having nearly crippling pain on my left side--so much so that it sent me to the ER in tears. ER docs did a vaginal ultrasound and found nothing out of order. Called my GYN and he called in a scrip for pain meds to hold me til my preop appt next week. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Is this normal? My surgery is 4/12 but the pain and the bleeding are just awful!

Re: Help! In so much pain/period every 14 days

I don't have any advice but you are not alone! I have my TVH tomorrow at 8am (arrive at 6am), and today is day SEVENTY of nonstop bleeding. I have pcos and the cysts cause ovary pain often, I ended up in the ER due to one rupturing several years ago (10-11). I am only 29 but know without a doubt that this is the right choice for me and my family.

Re: Help! In so much pain/period every 14 days

I have a LAVH on April 14. I've been bleeding since March 2 in some form or fashion. My periods have been wonky for going on two years, but usually I at least get some sort of break. I am wondering if it's the stress of the upcoming surgery that can sometimes make our last period go totally haywire? I've been having strange pains too.

I'm a runner. And when I taper right before a big race I get something I call taper madness (actually it's pretty well known to most distance runners before a big race). I have extra energy. I stress about the upcoming race. I suddenly feel like everything is hurting and I've injured myself. And THAT is exactly how I'm feeling now. I'm calling it surgery madness. I'm hoping that is all you are experiencing right now too.

Good luck to you!

Re: Help! In so much pain/period every 14 days

I am not a Dr. and not trying to diagnose anything but my Dr. told me that if you have adenomyosis the endometrial ablation will only work for a little while if it worked at all. That's why I opted not to have it done initially. With Adenomyosis the pain has been horrible for me with vomiting and diarrhea, blod clots from hell, and severe bleeding. Sometimes bleeding for 30 to 45 days straight.

Agreed. Mine lasted 8 years and I'm in the same boat except no continuous bleeding. But cramps from Hades three days every three and a half weeks and so much ibuprofen or Aleve that it's eating my stomach.

I'm scheduled for LAVH April 8. Sooner than I expected! (Nervous)

Yes the cramps are absolutely horrible. Also the ibuprofen and Aleve can hurt your kidneys. I understand your nervousness! Mine is coming up on April 11 and my nerves are starting to kick in. I know we will be fine, but its still there. I will be thinking about you on that day. Everything is going to turn out great and will feel like a brand new woman!
