Going back to work? When?

Hi, TAH everything gone. 4weeks today. My job is a sitting all day 12 hrs job. Coming up on 6 week end disability or ask for extension. Wondering what others experience is/was at 6 weeks... Wondering if sitting that long will be too long.

Thoughts suggestions? I don't mind work..just rather not jeopardize my health.

Re: Going back to work? When?

I had a DVH and have been back on my feet 40 hrs a week and I feell great. But I have seen on these boards numerous times, especially with TAH that sitting for long periods of time can be really uncomfortable. Maybe you can ask to be able to get up and move around or change positions when needed, you should be able to have this added to your work release restrictions. You may do greAat, but I like to to play better safe than sorry in this situation. I hope other sisters will come along and be able to add their personal TAH experiences.

Re: Going back to work? When?

I had the davinci, so a little different, but I have a desk job and I was out for 5 weeks. I brought a pillow with me and sat on it for my first two weeks back. It helped a lot. I also left early a couple of days my first week back. I walked verrrrrry slow and did not lift anything. I was exausted every night, and pretty much went straight to bed, but I think I did pretty good. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!

Thank you for your replies ... Guess it is every different for everyone .. No cookie cutter answer... Guess that is what makes the world interesting...everyone being different. Ok..but this helps me, think that I will practice at home as if I was working and see what I can /cannot do. Wishing everyone speedy recovery.

Re: Going back to work? When?

I had a TAH plus sling with vertical incision.

I was cleared at 4 weeks, but it was on a Tue afternoon, so I just went back at the start of week 5 which is what I had planned.

I was just fine at my desk job. I also have to walk about 10 minutes to / from the parking lot to get to the building. That was no problem either.

All in all, I had a really easy recovery. It's like nothing happened, except for no more fibroids, leaking, bleeding, etc. lol

Re: Going back to work? When?

I think it depends on what you do how many hours you work. I had a tvh and a lot go back at around 3-4 weeks. My doctor said I could go back at 2. I'm taking 6. I work 3- 12 hour overnights a week and lift push pull work short etc on every shift I work. Also very high stress so figured to take what I can and run with it.

Re: Going back to work? When?

I went to a board meeting at "work" on monday......and was down all day yesterday. I then talked to them today and they are ok with me not coming back till Dec 17. So I will have my first shift on the 17th, then see the dr on the 19th for my 6 week, then work the 20th then have a 6 day weekend, work 1 day then have a long weekend again.....so I figure that is "slow adding".

Re: Going back to work? When?

I've also found sitting is much more difficult than standing. I sure thought it would be the opposite! Today (at this very moment) I am at the 5 week point. I started back at my computer Monday and have been doing 4-5 hour days. That's given me some definite fatigue, soreness and a bit of spotting. And I'm going to make today a short day, to get in some extra rest. So I'd say at 5 weeks, take it slow, 6 weeks is probably better. Take care!

Re: Going back to work? When?

I have been back at work since Monday. I'm tired at the end of the day and a little sore but Advil and a nights rest rejuvenates me.

Re: Going back to work? When?

Going back tomorrow at 4 weeks and 2 days. Standing for 8 hours. Hoping I do fine, if not there are no options but to tough it out. Good luck.
