3 wk after hysterectomy- kept ovaries, is being hot normal?

Hi I had my surgery almost 3 wks 7/11 & I have been doing great with pain. I think the worse was the 1st 2 days...thereafter was just soreness from the incisions. I'm up & doing things with no problem. Now I do have a concern that is worrisome to me. I have been having occasional hot flashes... mainly at night. Tonight was one episode that was the scariest that I thought "why am I soooo hot". Is this normal during recovery & will it go away?

Yes, feeling warmer can be normal. During a hysterectomy the blood supply to the ovaries may be cut off, this can cause them to become a bit sleepy. It can take some time for them to wake back up.

Re: 3 wk after hysterectomy- kept ovaries, is being hot normal?

It's funny I ran across this post because I was thinking the same thing yesterday. I've been having minor hot flashes but didn't really know if it was just me or really hot being that it's July in TX. I started getting nervous because I don't want to be the dreaded hot flash lady everyone warns about. I'm only 40 and am not ready for that. I still have my ovaries so I'm just going to wait it out and hope for better come Fall.😉

We share the same surgery date, minnie38! I've had similar issues as you and tmcneil04. I'm not sure what constitutes an actual 'hot flash' but I've had episodes of my face feeling flushed for no apparent reason. I've always struggled with overheating in my sleep but after the surgery I'm paranoid this is a symptom of ovary failure. It's definitely on my list of things to discuss at my follow up appointment Monday.

Hot and sweaty here to. It's hot outside high desert California. This hot is different and it's different then before surgery. I've had hot flashes for along time. Kept one ovary still had cycle every 28 days was on when I went into surgery. My head gets hot and sweaty. Before I would get a flush and my hands and face would be hot and I would feel like a baked potato baking in my own skin. Now my forehead just drips sweat. All normal and should level out when the ovaries wake up.

Thanks ladies for the response! I feel a little better that I'm not alone and that it may go away! But will speak to my Dr about this! Thanks!
