Vaginal Cuff - Did I just trade down from my self-cleaning model to a high maintence one?

Only on Hystersisters could I get away with this question so here goes. I had my six week post-op with the Gyn/Onc yesterday and was cleared of all restrictions. Unfortunately for the past 3 weeks or so I endured a puesdomona infection in the abdominal wound. It was assumed this hadn't affected the vaginal cuff because I had experienced no pain or discharge vaginally. When the Gyn/Onc did an internal she found brown and green discharge at the cuff site. She took swabs for culturing but said she thought it was old discharge and wasn't concerned by it.

It wasn't until I was on the way home, and suffering irritation in the vagina (had two internals yesterday and think the irritation was probably just a reaction to that) that I even thought about the question of how to clean out the vault area. I know douches are a big No-no, so for now have just decided on saltwater baths in the hope that maybe the discharge will thin down and gravity will move it out. I also had a BSO, so was told to expect vaginal dryness which I'm hoping my local gyn might help me navigate after I see him at 3 months post op. For now though I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on what to do until I speak to the Gyn/Onc again later next week when the culture results come back.

OMG ... the conversations we have to have post-hysterectomy that we'd never even dream of beforehand.

Re: Vaginal Cuff - Did I just trade down from my self-cleaning model to a high maintence one?

Mine seems to be continuing to be self-cleaning. I don't do anything special to clean out the vaginal vault area, never did. The one thing that's different for me is that about 13 months after surgery, I had brachytherapy as part of treatment for a recurrence. Since then I've had to use a dilator three times a week. I apply lube generously before inserting the dilator, so three times a week my vagina gets lubed up.

It shouldn't effect it being self cleaning. It's all still vagina. I'm almost 8 months post surgery and I haven't noticed any changes from before.
