Kindness and insensitivity

Hello Knitter,
I too am going in on Dec 12 for a TAVH/BSO. I am having all my structures removed, my personal choice. Doc wants to leave the ovaries but I said take it all while you're in there because I'm only doing this once.
Anyhow, I totally understand what you mean by insensitive. I'm experiencing it with the looks people give me. When they find out what kind of surgery I'm having I get a face that looks like they just witnessed a train wreck. The best part is how they try to say something nice after, like "I'm sure you'll be so relieved to finally be done." as if that takes away the hit and run face they just made. I'm so sick of that look I feel like I may smack the next person who makes it at me.
I'd love to be in touch with you throughout the process if you're in the mode for some company/support. Feel free to email me if you're up for it. Good luck,

That was a very ignorant, insensitive and disgusting comment to make to anyone, much less to someone getting ready to head into the procedure in the near future--unbelievable! I've read on here some pretty rude comments though I have to say this one takes the cake! Makes my stomach turn!

Please disregard anything this person has said to you.

Wishing you an uneventful surgery and recovery.

take care, dear

My sister-in-law called today. She had just heard that I was having a "procedure" done on Dec. 14th. She said that she expected me to be feeling too unwell to attend the family party on Christmas Eve, but surely my husband and children would be there.

Yeah, my hubby and kids are going to leave their bedridden mom alone on Christmas Eve to party with the family. If they did, I wouldn't be here when they got back, even if I had to hire someone to drive me!
I would even break the five pound rule to chuck things at their heads as I drove away!

Makes you wonder if some people ever think before they open their mouths, doesn't it?

Judy

Yes, Island Princess, that's what it feels like to me sometimes!! People get that "witnessed a train wreck" look. I'm scheduled for a LSH in January. I don't broadcast it but casual friends/colleagues know I'm "having surgery" and if they ask, I'll tell them. Enough behave as though they wish they hadn't asked. It's just that word, "hysterectomy,". And just when I'm getting comfortable with the idea --I'm more than the sum of my reproductive organs! -- I feel like the simple word itself is TMI.

She sounds like both sets (yup, divorced twice due to the childless issue) of my in-laws. Take it with a grain of salt as mentioned above and remember that she is just a miserable person that gets kicks outta making others miserable / worry. May God watch over your sister with such a horrible mother in law. Prayers to you and keep your chin up!

O.K. first, stay away from your Mother-in-law, ha, ha..... OMG. I think I would have just died laughing because of the insanity of that comment..... Thanks MIL, when ever I am down, you will be the first one I call just in case I start to get up again...... You really have to laugh that off and talk to your DH. I have had kidney surgery, five miscarriages, now a hyst., and I still (thank God) do not know what it is like to be brutally raped!!!! That is an insane comment and one that deserves no worries. Good luck with you surgery. And, tell MIL you will send her a post card. :-)

A friend of mine said I should have told my sister's mother in law this: "Really? I know someone who had a hysterectomy and when she woke up she felt like she had made love to a handsome celebrity on a beach in Hawaii and ate Swiss chocolates and won the lottery!"

I feel very sorry for my sister that she has such a mean MIL.

Maybe you could keep a voodoo doll at your bedside just in case.

Jude, you crack me up. I'll have to be careful after my surgery, because reading your posts and replies might cause excess pain from the laughter!

Wow kinda like what my mother said to me yesterday when I told her I had to have surgery. Quote, "Oh you are going to be just awful to live with!" Thanks for the compassion mother!
