Do I need to take my ovaries???

I am scheduled for da vinci (robot?) surgery on the 21 of March, doctor wants to take everything: including ovaries and cervix, I am 50, stop menstruating a year ago aprox but fibroids are huge...have a small compound cyst in one ovary.

My question is DO I NEED TO TAKE MY OVARIES???

I have been told that if I do that I will be dependent on hormones, I will get fat, my voice will turn masculine and will age and die much faster.

My chances of getting ovarian cancer are small if you do regular check ups, and I do not have a history of cancer in my family, and If I keep my ovaries it will be better to prevent osteoporosis (which I have) and hear health (I have high cholesterol and heart disease in my family) but no history of cancer.

Is anyone there who was already menopausal and had a total hysterectomy? What were the effects?

Re: New here and have upcoming DaVinci

I would take the ovaries only is you are comfortable going on HRT. Only an organ to get more trouble. I wonder if I should of taken uterus. I have high testosterone level at 245. Normal for all women is 40 and lower. Go to endocrinologist on Tuesday for check on glands. Maybe adrenal gland throwing out all this testosterone. If I do not get a grip on it, I WILL have a heart attack or get breast cancer. I have had high number for awhile. No deep voice or adams apple. Just chin facial hair which is a royal pain in the butt. If you did not get last email, I am 57, and went thru natural for me menopause at 41 like my mother did.

Re: New here and have upcoming DaVinci

Before I reboot computer, I do not want HRT. Avoiding it like the plague. Will only take it shortly to bring down testosterone. I will not experience symptoms like the other women because of menopause in early 40's, so I may not need it. Maybe dr. will give me a plan B.
