Fibristal and Acessa
Hello,
I've been suffering from debilitating fibroids for four years now, and have explored many options. I've spent a fortune going the naturopathic route, with no effect. I've had an endometrial myomectomy for a small fibroid that was supposed to cause the heavy bleeding, again, no effect. I have several fibroids left, one is about 8 cm. My gynocologist wants me to have laparascopic surgery in the spring, but put me on Fibristal first in the hopes of shrinking them pre-op. I worry about the risks of both a hysterectomy or post-op adhesions.
I recently learned of a new procedure far less invasive called Acessa. Seems to me my dr. should have told me about this...
So I have two questions for you:
1 - If you have been on Fibristal, would you share your experience? I started 16 days ago while on my period. My period was not shorter, but now I am experiencing a gel-like discharge with tinges of blood. Is this common? My doctor can't answer these questions somehow.
2 - If anyone has experienced the Acessa procedure, I'd love to hear about it. I'm located in Ontario Canada and I've emailed the company to ask where the treatment is available, but no response so far.
If this has been discussed already, my apologies, I'm new to this wonderful forum. Feel free to redirect me.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Fibristal and Acessa
Hi There,
Just saw your post as I'm also fairly new here. I'm awaiting the date for my surgery...likely mid-Dec. I've not heard of Acessa, so would be curious to hear more about it. With regards to Fibristal, I wish I could tell you my experience, but have not started it as of yet. I posted something a few days ago, but have not had any response. I understand that it is fairly new in Canada (I'm in Vancouver).
My doctor recommended that I go on it to help shrink the fibroids I have in order to increase the likelihood of doing the procedure laprascopically. I noticed that the main side effects are headaches and hot flashes - have you experienced any of this? I have been a migraine sufferer for years, so a little nervous about the side effects. Would love to hear your experience with it and certainly if I find out more from my doctor, I will let you know.
Thanks so much!

Hi there. I am scheduled for Acessa for my two very large fibroids on oct. 16th. I will totally keep everyone on here posted with my experience. I am so looking forward to dealing with these aliens in my body that have taken over my life.

Re: Fibristal and Acessa
Hi Merica,
I'm not sure if Acessa is available in Canada yet - my doctor did not mention it to me. Sorry to hear that the Fiibristal does not seem to be working. I've just started it and am day 10, so will you know how it goes. So far, so good - no side effects yet - fingers crossed.

Re: Fibristal and Acessa
I have many large fibroids - the biggest being about 7" x 5". They have grown this big in the last 8 years as I had embolization done to get rid of them all at that time. The embolization worked well for me, but unfortunately they can still return. Now I have them again and I really don't want to go for a hyster. I found the new drug Fibristal and have been on it for 28 days now. I don't have any results from an ultrasound or MRI at this point as we are waiting until I complete the meds but I do feel better. My stomach isn't as swollen and protruding and I am actually able to run again. Before it just hurt too much. So far I am having good luck with the Fibristal... I do get some hot flashes here and there but nothing I can't live with. Will keep everyone posted on the final results, but so far so good and I would recommend it to anyone who is contemplating taking it. Anything to avoid surgery. Apparently fibroids shrink and go away during menopause so I am praying to have that sooner rather than later.... LOL
