lavh with epidural and pain reliever pump

Hello! Has anyone who has had the lavh received an epidural and the morphine pump? I am requesting both. I am terrified to go through the surgery and I am will do go through with it if I can get both. My biggest fear is the initial pain after the surgery. I had my gallbladder removed via open abdomen and I was in tons of pain. I swore off any other surgery for the rest of my life. Although this site has helped cope and come to my decision for the surgery I am still scared.

I'm so sorry that you had such a bad experience with your gallbladder surgery, ((( me025431 ))), and hope that you will have a completely different experience this time. I can certainly understand why you are scared and nervous.

I had a TVH with repairs (but didn't have the little laparoscopic incisions) and had the morphine pump only. In my case, I honestly felt no pain that I wasn't able to control by pushing the little button. In fact, I found that most of my discomfort came from the repairs, not the actual hyst. The incisions for the laporoscope are pretty tiny (much different than your gallbladder incision) and hopefully won't cause you much discomfort.

Be sure to tell the anesthesiologist about your earlier experience, so that he'll understand why you are asking for the epidural and the pump.

You can request all you want about an epi with the LAVH, but I really don't think your DR is going to do that. I had a LAVH and had general anthe. He needs to go back in and remove the last ovary I have (due to endo) and I asked about and epidural and he says he cannot, due to the gas that they use to expand your abdomen. Says that the pain felt in upper abdomen would be excruciating and that the epi doesn't go up that far. You can askl though...and will have to let me know. After surgey the first time, I took pain meds by mouth for only one day. Was feeling much better aftrer I came home. I also had an open abdomen gallbladder surgery and the LAVH was so much easier recovery wise. Each of us are diuffernt but I really do wish you the best of luck with your upcoming surgery. Just ask away to anyone here and also your DR.

Take care and best of luck to you!

Hi Tiffanii, I am going to be put under. I don't think I could handle being awake through this although I think I read someone's post recently that she was or was going to. I would be a basket case. I am just getting nervous about the what if's. I am not on the thin side and I have diabetes (take an oral med once a day), so I know my recovery will be alittle longer. When I had my gallbladder romoved long ago, I was younger, 80 pounds smaller and much more physical than I am now. (I was 19) Now I am 34, 4 kids later. (2 are twins which did a number on my gut!). I haven't read any posts regarding anyone having a sugar problem or being overweight. Thanks for responding, its nice to have people in the same boat as myself. My husband and male gyno can only say so much to make me feel better.
