Be honest about pain level

I woke up in recovery, in pain. Not period paid but cut my guts pain. TAH, which surprised me since I am pretty tolerant. I asked for pain meds which I never would have imagined. Then the drip for a night, then the pills at the hospital which mangaged the pain as long as I got them every four hours. Then I got home and took the pain pills andwrote down the timeI took them so I would not screw up. The after four days at home I decided I wanted a glass ofwine so no more pain pills. The lesson is take what they give you and don't let your pain get a start and if you hurt, be honest. I was stupid. They asked me my pain level. AndI said stupid stuff like '3 since I am not undergoiing an amputation" and I was really hurting. If you hurt, tell them it is an 8. My friend was sitting with me and recounts this stoy whiich I do remember. The nurse came in and I was hurting .She asked me my level. I said 4. Which to me was , big time pain. She rolled out one pill. I was screwed. I had not figured out that pain scale.then I realized my mistake. So I told her if I moved, the pain was a 6. It was really a 9, but then again, I thought unless an organ was hanging out or a bone was stickingout, it was always under a 5. But when I made it over 5, she rolledout the second pain pill. Relief. That is just how I am.Lesson learned. And I hated the pain meds. It made the cieling purple and I felt dull and stupid and slow. And I thought i saw a rat. Total hallucination. I was so glad to go home and take aleve.
