Surgery 11/26

Hi Sisters! I have a few questions & appreciate any and all feedback.

1) the only pain I have 5 days PO is to the right of my belly button. It's feels like I'm being stuck with a tack when I'm sitting still or poked with a hot iron if I'm moving. Any ideas? The area is about the size of a half dollar

2) I'm very concerned about "packing/drainage." I have no idea if I have this. I had a da Vinci total hysterectomy & all was removed through vagina. I have not checked, my doctor didn't say I had either & don't feel it. I know he closed me by created a vaginal cuff, but am not sure if that by definition requires packing/drainage. Help? Do I have this?

3) my vision is blurry. Like really bad. It is driving me batty. I had LASIK done 8 years ago & when I checked into castle I was (according to my optometrist) at 20/20. Anyone have ideas?

Re: Surgery 11/26

Hi locimia,

As for the feeling of being stuck with a tack, I don't specifically remember having that, but I do remember that I had all sorts of odd aches, pains, pulls, twinges, etc. If it is consistent and troublesome, do not hesitate to call your and ask about it.

You would know if you were packed. Your doctor sewed you shut to create a vaginal cuff, but not all of us require packing. I had none. As for a drain, you would know if you had that too. You would have been sent home with directions on how to care for it. You may have spotting or a little discharge, but that is normal.

As for the blurry vision, if it does not resolve soon, you should definitely let your know. I had a bit of blurry vision and extra dry eyes for a couple weeks post op, but it was not bad. My surgeon said it was due to the ansthesia and pain meds, and the dry eye may have a bit to do with hormones. Since my hysterectomy, my eyes have been dryer overall, and I have to use lubricating drops. My vision has changed a lot in the past year. It may or may not be hysterectomy-related, but it certainly wasn't sudden like you are describing.

Hope that helps a little.

Re: Surgery 11/26

I had Da Vinchi total hysterectomy the same day you did. I remember being told that blurred vision was a possibility before my surgery, I was told it was from being upside down and not to be concerned if it happened. I was also warned about shoulder pain, which I had and which lasted three or four days. I didn't know anything about packing or drainage. Have my first post-op appointment tomorrow so I will find out more then.

Re: Surgery 11/26

I was told by my eye dr because I was concerned about my blury vision as well it was due to the anti nauseous med and the patch behind my ear for it. And it went away after a few days

I'm having the same pain in the same incision, especially when I roll over. I've found my ice packs to be a godsend. A little added pressure on my stomach also helps. Plus I've been experiencing hot flashes so it's pretty nice to have something cool on me.

Hi. I appreciate the feedback. So I go to dr tomorrow & will post his assessment. I had felt much better all day today so I never laid flat since noon & am very sad that I'm paying for it now. Hadn't worn the binder all day & now it's back on. Discomfort (bordering on pain in the same abdominal area) & pressure (bordering on pain) in the vaginal area Going to bed & pray to feel better tomorrow. Thanks again
