Is going back to work as crazy as everyone thinks it is after my hysterectomy?

I have recently applied for a job (a good job) and I'm under considertion. Everyone except my husband thinks this is a crazy idea. My Mother tells me I should look for office work since the job I applied for was mostly 'male orriented'... Because somehow after losing my uterus to cancer I'm not capable of dealing with men in the work place? She says that working in such a hostile environment I would be subjecting myself to sexual harassment. What I don't understand is that both my parents work there (at the place I applied) and so does my husband, one of my brothers and my older sister. So why exactly is it that I am not capable of working there without harassment? When just about everyone in my family is working there without issues? I guess this is just me complaining rather than a question but honestly, is going back to work such an outrageous thing? I'm sort of hating that everyone views me as weak and not capable just because I had cancer and had a hysterectomy!!! How can I get my family to realize that I'm stronger today than I ever have been?!

Re: Is going back to work as crazy as everyone thinks it is?

If your mom is anything at all like my mom, you will never be a grown woman, let alone one who is strong and capable of taking care of herself. It may be that the culture at your considered work place is particularly male-dominant, and your mom wants to protect you. It may have nothing to do with your having had a hysterectomy and being a cancer survivor. My work is also predominately male 3:1 in my office. Most of the people we serve are males. My mom still worried about stuff like that even though I'm 47. Try not to look at it like she is underestimating you, she's doing what moms do. She's watching out for her daughter.
