7/31 DVH with bladder sling

Hi,

I was doing really well until my pre-op appointment yesterday.

I had a myomectomy back in 2001 but now I have many more large fibroids and hysterectomy is my only option.

I was doing as well accepting that as possible until yesterday...

Following 3 shots of Lupron, my uterus has shrunk which was the goal. However, it's so high, he could not find my cervix at all. It's not unusual for him to have trouble, but not finding it at all because it's so high is bad. There's a chance he could convert from DVH to bikini cut incision if I have too many adhesions from my prior surgery.

I also found out that in addition to the DVH I need a bladder sling. I have done tons of research on DVH and I'm comfortable with that, but introduction of the bladder sling is new.

Has anyone had a positive experience with both? I'm curious for feedback on what to expect.

Thanks!

Diane

Re: 7/31 DVH with bladder sling

Hi Don't you hate it when they change up the plan just as you become ok with the idea?

I had a bladder sling, it slipped at first, and I thought it would have to be fixed, but in a couple months it corrected itself. The first few months with it because of the slip were a bit "fun", lots of peeing, but now, things are working just fine.

I did not have a bikini cut with my hyster, but I had one done previously with 2 c-sections, and you will heal up just fine. You will be walking around as fast. It takes a bit more to be cleared for lifting and such, but it is really not as terrible as you think, or as it looks when you see it.

Hang in there. In the end it will be worth it.

Hi well they sure changed it big time on surgery day due to complications! Lol

Thanks for the good wishes.

I was converted to TAH still had bladder sling but also a general surgeon was called in to fix my bowels. Total surprise. I felt horrible yesterday but I'm doing as well as can be expected today. N

Re: 7/31 DVH with bladder sling

I also had a Myomectomy in 2011 and was scheduled to have the Davinci on June 29th, 2012. It turned into a TAH. I had a lot of adhesions and a prolapse to boot. I am doing very well except now I may have to go back and have the sling done. The surgeon could not do it due to heavy bleeding. What happened that your bowel needed fixed? Did you get a sling?

Re: 7/31 DVH with bladder sling

Thanks jessiemae, I know you are right.

Lovelyladylumps, they were able to do the sling. I just have a larger incision then planned and there were many adhesions to remove to manipulate my small intestine back into place. The gas yesterday was horrible but they did such a good job correcting it that not only was the gas gone last night but my bowels have been moving a little too well today.

At least they cleaned up the old incision. I really am feeling much better. I can't tell any issues from the sling so far. My bladder is working fine. I'm not sure how the intestines ended up so far out of place. The original surgeons were shocked!

Re: 7/31 DVH with bladder sling

My surgeon said that I had so many adhesions from the Myomectomy and old Gallbladder surgery that my bowel was hiked up. When they removed them it fell back into place. Sounds like we had a similar route. I bled too much to keep me opened any longer. My uterus was huge and the fibroids too.
