Re: painful bowel movements

Even with minimally invasive surgery the surgeon performs a lot of internal work and that causes significant trauma with inflammation and swelling in the whole pelvic area. For some women it affects their bowels and some their bladder. And for some it's both. I had painful BM's right up until my 6 week check up and then the next week it was totally gone. Regular use of an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen may help. Increased activity, other than just walking, may also aggravate the swelling.

Re: painful bowel movements

i had found that stool softners and plenty of water with the walking helped a lot in not having painful bowel movements. I did have bladder spasms for a month https://checkout.netsuite.com/s.nl?c=85

Re: painful bowel movements

I am 6 days post op and my BMs are so much better now. I started using miralax (whole capful) on day 3, and with the help of a glycerin suppository had two BMs on the 4th day. Still using miralax but only every other day, and will continue to do so for a few weeks so I don't strain. My three year old son has been using miralax since he was 15 months old, so I am a fan. I would try it...

To relieve the cramping and pain, also try supplementing your diet with magnesium, which promotes proper bowel function; food sources include leafy greens, whole grains, nuts and seeds, and dark chocolate. Also try sitting on the toilet with your knees drawn into your chest, and your feet elevated on a low stool; this straightens the rectum, so the poop can pass through without straining or pain. Best wishes for your continued recovery!
