questions
I am schueled for surgery on June 27. I have to go to pre-op on June 21 for blood work. I just looked at the paper work the dr. gave me to give to the hosp. It says there is a complex cystic left adnexal mass measuring approximately 6.1 x 3.3 cm. It contains low level internal echogenicity, several think septations and a small region of moderate echogenicity laterally. A separate left ovary is not visualized. The right ovary appears grossly normal. There is no hydronephrosis.
Transvaginal ultrasound was performed. THe endometrium measures 8-9 mm. Because of its relatively high location within the pelvis the complex left adnexal cyst is not well-visualized transvaginally. The right ovary is also better evaluated transabdominally. There is no free pelvic fluid.
This is the second ultrasound I had done.,
Impression: 6.1 x 3.3. cm complex cystic left adnexal mass. It contains severl thin septatinos and some echognic material laterally which may be solid.
What does all this mean. Can anyone help me.
Thank you for all your help

questions
Wow what a mouthful..
I did a quick search on google for cystic adnexal masses and found the following:
During the course of her lifetime, every woman develops several adnexal masses. The normal functioning ovary produces a follicular cyst 6-7 times each year. In most cases, these functional masses are self-limiting and resolve within the duration of a normal menstrual cycle. In rare situations, they persist longer or become larger than 7 cm in diameter. At this point, they become a pathological condition.
While most of these masses develop in menstruating women, their presence must be considered in both prepubertal girls and postmenopausal women, particularly when associated with pain.

It's Bilateral Salpingo Oopherectomy - means they're taking both your ovaries.
