I failed my pre-op!
I just got back from my pre-op and everything was going fine but my blood pressure is through the roof. My surgeon said that if it stays that high the ansthesiologist will cancel my surgery next week. I told her I get stressed in Dr.'s offices and that it goes down when I am home. I have insomnia right now due to stress and she perscribed ambien for sleep and atenolol for my blood pressure. She said she doesn't want me to take it unless my blood pressure is 140/90 or above. Today it was 155/115. Annyone else have this problem??? I am a wreck!

I failed my pre-op!
I have trouble with my blood pressure and heart rate at the doctors' office and at home on somedays. What I have found is my heart rate is always over 100bpm if I stand or hadn't been able to sit for a long time before see the doctor. Also my blood pressure is lower when I stand but higher when I sit. I usually get very dizzy when I stand. I have a connective tissue disorder (numerous prolapses, including heart) so that might be the reason I get strange readings. However I am usually nervous when I see anyone wearing a white coat. Sorry I wasn't much help. Good Luck with your surgery and I hope your blood pressure gets lowered.

Sunflowers, what a super member name! One thing I might suggest is to avoid as much caffeine as you can right now, including chocolate (boo hiss!). Also, maybe some visualization techniques might help as well as slowly relaxing each part of your body, starting at your toes and working your way up.
The atenolol did help me before so it may just do the trick. Don't panic yet. That will just make it higher!

Have them check both arms, my blood pressure is higher on the right than the left and have them check it after you meet with the doctor when the appt. is over and see if that helps. Mine was a little higher from the pain of fibroids and anemia made my heart work harder (so I was told). Best of luck

I failed my pre-op!
I recently developed the same blood pressure problems and sleep problems. Don't be afraid of the medication. It works well and I have no side effects. Ambien is a great sleep med. I only take it for a few days every couple of weeks so I can catch up on my sleep.
Do what you need to do to get your surgery out of the way. You will be glad you did.

Thanks for all your replies. I plan to do what it takes to get this done. I can't take these horrible painful periods anymore. The last one I hade made me puke and pass out. It's gonna happen, I am thinking positive....

I failed my pre-op!
I agree with taking in both arms and also having a few different people take it. Sometimes some hear it differently. A week ago today I was freaking mine was going to get called off because of BP or something, but here I am a week later and it all went fine. The waiting is the very hardest. Do try the meditation stuff and thinking positive thoughts. Rest and relax as much as you can. I had a few days that I "practiced" recuperating and I know I had low BP on those days! And try not to worry, I know it is easier said than done!
