ovarian cancer

My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 42. I am now 40 and scheduled for a TAH-BSO-Burch procedure on 6-24. I was also recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I am miserable and ready to get this surgery over with. I went to the gyn yesterday. He said under age 45 he needed to have a darn good reason to remove the ovaries, over age 45 he needed a good reason to leave them. We decided to remove them, after discussing all the options. I am not looking foreward to going into instant menopause. It can't be any worse than the way I feel right now. BC pill aren't helping much. They slow it down, but it never stops. What have others experienced with instant menopause? What has been the experience of others with mothers, sisters, etc. with ovarian cancer. Mom got it and she only had one ovary. Before she and dad were married in 1960, they thought she had appendicitis and removed her right ovary. We lost her 10 years after diagnosis to a form of Luekemia. I had a C-section tubal ligation many years ago. Thanks for listening to me vent. darlaw2003

Ovarian Cancer

Hello:

I lost my mother to ovarian cancer in 1994. She was 72 years old. From the time she was diagnosed until the day she died was a total of 2 weeks. I had a TVH/BSO on April 29. Because of my mother's history my doctor and I decided to remove both of my ovaries. I am 53 and had not gone through menopause at the time of my surgery. I had a hysterectomy because of massive bleeding and periods that wouldn't stop. My last one lasted two months. For me, instant menopause has not been horrible. I am on the lowest dose of estrogen and that has done the job. I have only had a couple of hot flashes at most and they haven't been horrible. I haven't had any of the post surgery mood swings I've heard about. So from my perspective, it hasn't been horrible. I hope this has been helpful to you.

Best of luck to you.

ovarian cancer

HI,
I haven't lost anyone to ovarian cancer, but I had cancerous cells in my uterus. I am 41 and had a TAH/BSO 10 weeks ago and to this day have not had any bothersome menopausel symptoms. I experienced the fatigue and insomnia but no hot flashes, mood swings, night sweats. My doctor put me on Climara 0.05mg patch 3 days post op and so far no side effects. I'm sorry for your loss of your mom, my mom died suddenly in Feb at age 60, but she had a brain aneurism. Best of luck to you and God Bless You.
