Re: pre and post op questions
Hang in there mariuche, it's getting CLOSE. I'm like you, find it impossible not to obsess over this. I did great at not doing that until last weekend, now I'm just kind of wrapped up in cramps and headaches and I keep replaying my pre-op appointment and running through my routine the day before surgery etc etc. I feel like a little kid on a long drive..."are we THERE yet????". Ya, I'm totally going to ask my DH to be with me as much as possible. I think it will actually make him feel better too. I'm going to ask him to take some thank you treats to the nurses in pre-surgery because they were so great to me at my pre-op appointment...so that will be one small thing for him to do, and it will earn him some smiles from the nurses...so if he has any questions at that point I know he can ask them.
As far as making this darn clock tick a little faster, I'm trying to watch funny shows. Normally I read alot but don't seem to have the focus for it right now, so using tv for escapism. And I was painting a room (which I love) until I got this last visit from Flo so now I'm just making an indent in the couch. Sigh.
Geez, I was trying to cheer you up by saying "I feel your pain" but now this is starting to sound depressing!!!
Keep posting and telling us how you're doing!

Re: pre and post op questions
I am scared and nervous all at the same time. My surgery is scheduled for May 6th. I am 26 years old so this is not something planned for me at all. I don't know what to expect. I know I am having a total hysterectomy for all the problems that I have been having. My husband and father will be there and there is no talking them out of it. My mom on the other hand is best to be left at home. She can't handle it. I am thankful to find a place where I can get so much information about this. I just joined yesterday and I have learned do much from it. Thanks

Re: pre and post op questions
Hi all! OK, here I am after my semi-sleepless night last night. I went to karate class today (been doing it for the past 4 yrs.). One of our black belts is a nurse at my castle. Last night while I was whining on this site, I kept thinking about her. There she was this morning. I cried all the way to class and then she was there. She said that sometimes too much info (like the intubation for me) can sometimes bother people. But also, people like me need to know the bottom line. She assured me that the staff at our castle is awesome. They will take good care of me. She also told me that I may feel let down afterwards that my recovery is not as bad as I imagined. My DH will be there for the whole thing. I will send him home once I get into my room.
Thanks for all of the encouragement. I knew I would be on an emotional roller coaster.

Re: pre and post op questions
Mari- My castle time was 0530 surgery scheduled for o730. My husband went with me even though he has an extreme aversion to hospitals (his need to ensure I'm all right overrode all that). He was able to accompany me from the time I checked in and until the anesthesiologist(sp) put me under and wheeled me off to the OR. He was the second person I saw (not allowed back for when I was coming out from under) but once that door opened for me to be taken to my room there he was. Once in the room however I was like go home...what are you going to do watch me sleep? well that's what he needed to do for a few hours and then he left. I think i needed it too and just didn't want to admit it. The hospital staff was amazing...I was just shocked to find I was on the Onocology ward. I never even thought to ask WHERE I'd be recovering because friends brought me flowers and those aren't allowed on that ward. At least in my hospital.

Re: pre and post op questions
Im feeling same way my surgery is same day as yours 700am Im 29 years old and know this is the best for me especially since this week Im on my period and fully getting to experience the pain. Mines a TVH and not my first surgery so I know how the intubation and iv's and all go but still nervous. Hubby has seen me through two surgeries now and I usually freak out right before I go in so know that I will need him there.
I have no family up here so just my hubby and my cat to care for me. I go tomorrow for my pre-anthesia consultation with the hospital so Ill get to ask all my questions that may not have been answered with my surgeon at pre op. A bit nervous bc it seems like everything is happening so quickly now. Hang in there we can do it all of us.

Re: pre and post op questions
Angeltears, that is the rub. It is just my hubby and my 8 furry babies (dogs and cats). My family is east of the Mississippi. My friends live 100 mi. from here. I am fairly new to this area and being retired have not had the chance to make new friends down here. I've been an emailing fool these past couple days.
I think the DHs will shine through for us. They know how we get and can keep us somewhat grounded. I am reaching out to some acquaintances from a class I go to who have been through this. They understand and that is so cool!

Re: pre and post op questions
Well, I have been trying for 2 days to figure out how to post a new question - with no success. All I can do is "new reply." Help. 2 new questions, since I have been carrying multiple fibroids and have the non"baby bump" for about 2 years, WILL THERE BE STRETCH MARKS AND what should I do to minimize them? Also, I will have a vertical incision. How can I make the scar as invisible as possible? Is there a magic cream somewhere?

Re: pre and post op questions
Im so happy that I found this board since I had my pre-anthesisa consult yesterday and knew from this board to ask what floor I was going to be on and sure enough they said maternity/post partum but in the surgical part of the floor and I said will I still hear babies crying and see new mothers. Well yeah maybe occasionally. I said then Im requesting a floor change I have no children and prefer not to have to deal with that emotionally following having my uterus removed. She said she will see what she can do but that they usually prefer to place us there. Im so thankful for all the info Ive found on this board so many things I wouldnt have known to ask yesterday.

Re: pre and post op questions
My sister wanted to spend the night with me after surgery but she forget her own medications so I sent her home....I was in la la land anyway with the morphine and wasn't getting out of bed until the next day, so she couldn't have done anything for me anyway. She did spend the following night with me, but we were both miserable - me from her SNORING and her from the uncomfortable chair/bed. I would say to all, just skip the overnight guests....
