Is 6 week post op blood work standard?

I had my 6 week post op appt yesterday and they rushed me in and out. I had severe anemia before surgery. I just found it strange that they did not weigh me, take BP, order bloodwork, etc. Anyone else out there can you tell me if you did or didn't have bloodwork at six week check? Should I be going to my regular doc for this?

Re: Is 6 week post op blood work standard?

I had my blood drawn at my 4 week check. I was slightly anemic beforehand, so Dr wanted to see if my level went up. I definitely would call and ask about having yours retested. Good luck!

Re: Is 6 week post op blood work standard?

My doctor did blood work because I was complaining of all the fatigue, just to make sure there weren't any issues (there weren't). I did not get weighed, actually I haven't been weighed at any of my post-ops (3 in total so far). I don't think they took my blood pressure, but honestly can't quite remember.

Re: Is 6 week post op blood work standard?

I was weighed, but they weigh you just for walking in the office I go to!!
I did not have any blood work done at 6wk and I was severely anemic and had to have a blood transfusion after surgery in hospital before they would release me. I am still on iron supplements, but that is all. I was also rushed and only saw Dr for about 10 mins at my checkup. Barely got my questions answered.
Maybe call the office and talk to the nurse or leave a message for them to call you back answering whether or not you should have some blood work done. If it helps you feel better and keep recovering you should do it.

Re: Is 6 week post op blood work standard?

Hi lavander_jk,

I am just 1 wk post op and I had a LAVH but, no matter what you had done the dr. office should always do the basic stuff such as b/p, weight, vitals and if you were low on iron before sugery they should have checked your blood work!!!!! sounds like there are some real problems w/docs office???
I would keep calling and let your concerns be heard!!! remember
we woman must speak up for our selfs or no one else well.

best of luck
