Steps to planning surgery

i am overwhelmed !! I am hoping to schedule a surgery date for the end of February. I have to first go through steps to see how detailed the surgery is. I have a uterus and bladder prolapse and am planning on having a vaginal hysterectomy. I just had a test which showed that the reason I don't have leakage is because my utterer is kinked and I am actually leaking. It also showed that my bladder doesn't empty all the way and that I have bladder contractions. I don't know what any of this means. The next test is a cystascopy.This involves him doing this in the office with a metal scope not a flexible and not being put to sleep. This scares the death out of me. After this he said he will sit down and let me know what he has to do. I am not planning on having a sling, mostly because of the problems they are having with them and because I have been told if you smoke it is not a good idea.The exam he gave me at first he said that the prolapse is a 4, both uterus and bladder are protruding pretty much and the rectal part is a 2-3. Still don't know what that means.Can anyone tell me how painfully is the cystascopy just using a numbing med?
I can't understand how he can do it if my utterer is kinked like this. Does anyone know how they bring the bladder up back in place without a sling?I have so many questions on how the surgery goes, how painfully is it afterword's, what to expect ext?I am 64 have diabetes 11, I do smoke although I am trying to quit but it is not working out to well.I have had 3 major surgeries in the past years due to ruptured intestines, then the second was to reconnect and repair incisions hernias and then the 3RD was to repair incisions hernias that came again but they used mesh and I have had no trouble with that since then.I have to urinate quite a bit and I thought i was holding my urine but now they told me that it is only because it is kinked. The other thing I notice is that it seems like my stool slowing comes down maybe past a muscle that isn't strong enough to hold it in and then when it comes past that point and it comes to the rectum it is hard to hold until I use the bathroom . I don't know what all that means. If anyone can ease my mind and give me details on this scary surgery I would appreciate it. I have had 3 major surgeries and this one has me more terrified than those

I am so sorry you are going through this. I wish I had answers for your questions, but I do not have any experience with this.

thanks for your support. I really was hoping someone would come around and give me some insite on anything concerning what I need done. My cystascope is going to be done Friday and i am losing sleep over it. Please anyone?

I have had numerous cystoscopies because I always have blood in my urine , apparently I have some benign condition - anyway , it is quick and slightly uncomfortable, but I go alone and then drive home for 40 minutes by myself . I feel like I am going to urinate all over myself but I don't , lol. I hope this alleviates your fears - oh and I get to do this every year ...

Thanks for your reply.. They said it will be done in the Dr. office with a rigid scope. i worry because they say the tube is kinked, so how are they going to put something rigid in there. Can you tell me what you mean by uncomfortable?

It's just like being catheterized, that's what is uncomfortable - if you have ever been cathed or had a foley - it is the same feeling . It's not painful . Don't let the word rigid freak you out. You need some substance to the scope so it doesn't flop around so much . Floppy scopes are harder to navigate .

Uncomfortable is how I would describe it as well. No pain really, just laying on the table knowing they are doing something is uncomfortable. I do remember feeling pressure and the increased urge to urinate but that's all. I too have a history of having blood in my urine and always had the urge to go very frequently. I had polyps on my bladder and had the cystoscopy after I had the polyps removed. It was interesting when he showed me just how much my fibroids were pushing on my bladder. You should be fine. The description of the procedure is misleading for sure. There is nothing rigid about it.
