Ladies, you can ask for something to be put in your IV so that you are not physically sick when you wake up. Still not 100% but way better than without if you are one to feel quizzy and nauseous. Just tell the nurse that you are worried about getting sick and they can give you something like a gravel that helps. Worried with my last surgery... Just an idea for those needing it., I know I will!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Jan 17, 2016

Hi all,

Glad you all took advantage of this chat to get to start knowing each other. Wishing you all an uneventful surgery. The nerves are normal. So try and keep all in perspective. Soon you will be on the other side healing and done with all the presurgery issues and pain.

Please give your Drs all your concerns before your surgery. This will help them best treat you. And don't forget about things from skin allergies to tape to nausea from anesthesia. For those who have pre op yet have this discussion then and for those who have already done that and have surgery tomorrow or early on the week you will have a chance to talk to someone before they start your sedition. So please be free with your concerns. I had a great prep nurse and two anesthesiologist, besides my surgeon to talk to before my surgery. So any final questions should be asked. They want you to go into surgery calmly with full understanding and knowledge.

I will be looking forward to seeing as many of you who care to post on your Recovery Progress Report thread. You will get a link to it on your UserCP after your surgery. See you there!

Prayers and lots of Sister Hugs,
Anndy

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Jan 17, 2016

I'm Barbara (and late for this thread . Having LAVH/BSO on Friday the 22nd. I'm getting a bit nervous and think I've OVER planned. Looked up my doctors licenses, googled table, how your draped....everything. I like to be prepared. Lol. I'm wondering if I can ask if they will tell me before I "go" out. I'm assuming it's the mask, but I've been in surgeries before where they just ignored me like I was interrupting a conversation and boom, woke up. Didn't like that. I also forgot to ask how long 2-3 hrs? And want to be sure I'm placed in stirrups the right way. I've read horror stories of back/hip pain caused by not moving legs together. I should stop Google and stay here. You're less "scary". Lol

I was told I was "lucky" and it was "hot off the presses" that the bowl prep was no longer needed. It was so new that they had it crossed out with a pen on the paperwork. She said that had I been there the day before I would have to do it. So someone who was there the day before me, and possibly has surgery on the same day as I do, has to do it, but I don't. I didn't ask why not, I certainly wasn't going to complain! Maybe your facility doesn't require it anymore either?
