Whoa!!! So much to deal with???!!!
Hi ladies,
I have a question. I go to the castle on Oct 4th for TAH/BSO. I have just been reading the post op message board and see SO MANY sisters complaining of tiredness, no energy, grouchiness, swell belly, depression, etc and they are 8, 10, 12 weeks post op!!! Is this the norm? Do I have depression, a huge belly and incredible moodiness to look forward to. I don't have ANY pain right now, just uncontrollable periods......I think that might be better than all of the above!!! Please tell me this is unusual!!!
Jodi

Whoa!!! So much to deal with???!!!
Jodi, I have heard lots of stories of both. I find myself reading all of the posts and sometimes getting overwhelmed....I well up with tears and have to walk away from the computer...only to rush back to read more. I, too, am afraid of all the stories I'm hearing...especially swelly belly, no energy.....grouchiness, I can deal with ! haha! My Dr. has told me these things TYPICALLY pass in several weeks. Sorry I couldn't be more help, but thank you for your response to my post, it made me feel better...stay smilin' lady!

Jodi:
Unfortunately, I hear that a lot of the princesses with smooth recoveries forget to come back although many do.
If you are not sure you want to have surgery, PLEASE discuss your concerns with your doctor.
I am fine with all of the post-op symptoms that you mentioned, because I have them now, but since you don't your decision making process is different than mine.
Hang in there.... I know you'll make the right decision for you!

a good story
I am 8 weeks post op, and I remember being pre-op and freaking out over the post op board. It seems every single problem anyone else ever had will all be heaped on you--
No doubt, you will have a little thing or two to deal with, but there's also chance it will go better than you could have imagined. I had a TVH, and was amazed at how quickly I bounced back. Within 3 weeks, I felt fairly normal, by four weeks, I had all my energy back. Now at 8 weeks I have more energy than ever and I am very active and productive and grateful I had this surgery done. I had not a single physical complication or problem or pain. And because I spent so much time on this site, I realize and appreciate how lucky I am every day.
My only real problem has been hormonal, wild mood swings, etc. but I am working that out. So the best favor you can do yourself is to hope for the best, and not worry about something until it happens. Good luck and take care!

Whoa!!! So much to deal with???!!!
Hi all,
Everything sounds worse than it really is.. I mean there are some who have serious complications, but in reality things like swelly belly, and the grumpiness, are really not that bad. At least I haven't found that. The swelly belly for me is just about gone, sometimes comes back a little when I really overdo. The grouchiness in most cases has to do with hormonal balance, and will even out after you get the hormones straightened out. You have to balance out the good with the bad, I feel better than ever now, and it's worth the first weeks/months of discomfort.
Take care

Whoa!!! So much to deal with???!!!
I was overwhelmed during my pre-op time too, reading about post-op concerns/difficulties. It did, however, give me a better of idea of what to possibly expect, which helped me to feel more prepared, and which helped my recovery to be fairly easy.
This is major surgery, and it does involve some discomfort and lots of healing time to get back on our feet. Please remember too that there are many women who do not post problems at all because they have uneventful recoveries. We all heal differently and have our own unique situations. The main thing is to gain as much knowledge and be prepared as you can for your surgery and recovery. Follow the "Princess Training" rules and give yourselves the best chance to heal properly.
's and Blessings

odd but true
I stay on the pre-op and castle story boards for hours but I only let myself read 5 posts a day from post-op. I figure since I'm doing this anyway I will find out more when I'm there; right now my tendency to get every illness when I read about it (yep, that's west nile...no, I saw a kid with chicken pox, it must be chicken pox...) will not be helped. But that's just my solution. I do read a lot in hormone jungle so i can negotiate with my MD, though.

(((((((((((((Jodi)))))))))))))))
Hi Jodi,
When I read your post, my heart went out to you! I had the same fears about post op before my surgery... will I be okay... will I be a crazy-woman without my ovaries... will I be depressed, anxious... will I be able to sleep... and on and on and on.
I am now 2 weeks post op from a TAH/BSO. Day by day, ALL of my post op fears are being dismissed. Every day I feel better than the day before.
This is major surgery and it takes a great deal of energy to heal... so we must rest. The ladies who went before us in here assure us that with time everything will be wonderful! I believe them!
Take good care, Gracie
P.S. I will be sending you good vibes and prayers on Oct 4th!

Whoa!!! So much to deal with???!!!
Hi Jodi,
I had my fears before my hyster. I was facing the fact my last ovary would be taken, one was removed 15 years ago. It scared me so much. I was afraid I was going to be a monster, when the monster was taken out. I suffered horribly from Endometriosis. I was in pain 24/7. Severly anemic. I would walk across the room and be thrown into chronic pain. I accepted the fact I had to have the hyster. I was very afraid. After what I have been living with for the past 13 years, the worse of my disease, I was left with no choice. I had to face what was ahead of me. The fear of not having hormones, and taking hormones. Complications from the hyster. The sex drive. Memory loss. Would I age over night. Recovery. Weight gain. So many questions and so many fears. This was my 6 female related surgery. When I lost my ovary, about 15 years ago, the recovery was long. I suffered alot before that particular surgery, as I did before my hyster. But, with what I was living with, was not living, I was existing. Yes, recovery, has been long, I expected that. But over all, I am doing very good. I am with the living now. I do have some problems. I expect that. I have been doing very good on my hormones so far. My memory, eh, not too bad, lol. I haven't had any complications from the surgery. I had a slight infection. But that is normal, and no biggy, as long as you tell the doctor of any discharges or fever. I have had some stomache problems. but, my intestines had to be seperated and peeled off my stomache. So it is taking my stomache time to get better. Did not suffer depression as so many ladies seem to suffer. I did suffer some depression. I feel alive. I feel really good. I accept the fact of having pain for the rest of my life. With what I was living with, was no way for any woman to be living. I feel happy. And I now know, I can enjoy life alot more.
Try to look at the positive. Take one day at a time. That is what I have done. Take one day at a time, and I don't expect alot out of my self. Don't beat yourself up, because you aren't doing a marathon in a month. Take things slow, be good to yourself, and you will do fine. Good luck and best wishes
Angl

I was worried too
Hi! I'm only 5 days post-op, so I don't know how many symptoms I will develop. But I can say that your basic attitude towards life and difficulties will play a large part in how you deal with the surgery. I don't like to be "down," so I fight like crazy to get back on my feet. I know many of these posts talk about lots of pain, lots of depression--and maybe I will become depressed, too. But right now, even after a few days, even with coming home with a temporary catheter (yucky, but not painful!), I am starting to feel like my old self, except better. And this is only day #5. Yeah, it hurts to get up, but you just get up anyway, and the pain goes away. If you let the pain stop you, you will lose the battle, because in order to beat the pain you have to just get through it! (I sound like one of those cheesy Kung-Fu movies!!) It's not that bad--after all, you have lived with lots of pain just being a woman!
So, my message is, don't spend a lot of time right now reading posts that scare you. Because a lot of us don't have problems at all, and just quietly get on with our lives. I was an absolute basket case before the surgery, and that's normal. I started reading the funny boards and posts on this site after I realized I was scaring myself to death reading the negative posts.
Hang in there...you will get through this!
Mary
