1 day post hysterectomy: Gas in right shoulder

1 day post op and having issues with laying on my right side and laying flat. I have pain in my right shoulder but I can lay on my left side. Is this the gas everyone is describing? I even feel short of breath when I even try to lie on right side or flat.
Any ideas?

I wish I knew something too help. That shoulder pain started for me when I arrived home. My nurse friend said it was more than likely the air. It ached and pain med. wouldn't touch. Best wishes for you and it will get better! I am 1 week today post opt. and air problems almost completely gone

Re: Gas in R shoulder

Yes, this is the gas trying to find its escape after surgery. It took me about a week until it subsided. Walking helped me - gets things moving and helps the gas move. Best of luck.

About 5 hours after surgery I started to experience this in both shoulders and rib cage. I couldn't inhale if I was laying down. I was in soooo much pain I was crying. I had to stand and walk around for about 2 hours and I was so exhausted. Finally the pain subsided enough for me to lay on one side. I was able to sleep through the night off and on. The pain began to taper off over the next few days. I finally only had a twinge of pain in my right shoulder on day 5... after that the pain was gone. I took gas x and walked around the house to help relieve pain. I was burping a lot after taking gas x. Hang in there! Get some gas x, walk around, and know that it will go away at some point!

Thank you so much for all of your replies. My family had me concerned it was a blood clot or something. I knew gas in shoulders was normal but I don't remember seeing anything about breathing being affected.

Re: Gas in R shoulder

I used a heating pad on my shoulder and it helped alot. I quickly became best friends with my heating pad the first 2 weeks of recovery!
