Weepy and Frustrated
I hope that you wonderful ladies can provide me with some insight. I'm at a loss here.
I had my hysterectomy and right ovary removed on 10/12. My doctor and I discussed whether or not to remove the left ovary too, but as long as it looked ok, we decided to keep it so I wouldn't go through menopause before my time. Here's the thing though, I feel like I'm crazy. I have been on a pretty heavy dose of antidepressants for years and years. Every now and again, I quit taking them because I think I'm ok now. I know, I know, you're not supposed to do that. I think my husband will divorce me if I ever do it again . But, for the last two weeks or so, I feel like I'm not on my pills. I'm weepy, frustrated easily, and all of my other symptoms that go with my depression.
Could all of this be because I only have one ovary? Dr. said that one will work just as well as two, but I don't know how else to explain these symptoms away. I'm at a loss. I absolutely can't deal with these feelings!
Has anybody had similar experiences? Any advice?
drowning in all of the tears,
Pam

Weepy and Frustrated
Pam,
I had already gone through menopause before my TAH-BSO but I had the same feelings you're describing a few weeks after my surgery. I don't know if it was hormonal or just post-surgical stuff.
I cried at anything (or nothing), I was angry, sad, bored, crying again, just feeling depressed. It passed and I'm feeling fine now.
I know it takes a while for any remaining ovaries to "wake up" after surgery. Maybe that's what's happening to you. Have you asked your doctor?
Good luck!

Hi Pam. You are not alone. I cry at the drop of a hat and am frustrated everyday. I am hoping it is all part of the healing process and will one day be myself. Some days I feel like a crazy lady. Hang in there!!! I am with you!!

I feel the same way. My emotions are definitely on a roller coaster and my DH is stuck on the ride with me.. LOL... Be patient with yourself and your body. I cry alot for no reason at all. I kept both my ovaries and had a LAVH 1 week ago. I have hot flashes from time to time and feel like I have a flush of emotions and then no emotion at all sometimes. I have been assured by my doctor that this will pass as my body heals. She said it can take months though.

YES! I have had that many times since my surgery. It takes a while for all this to sort out with or without ovaries from what I have heard.
Hang in there Sister, we are there for you!

I am feeling the same way as Pam plus just extremely tired and not able to sleep at night. I am 4 weeks post-op TAH/BSO. Thanks so much to you ladies who responded "been there-done that and you will be OK!" You all are a God-send.

your remaining ovary may be in shock and not working yet. have you let your dr know how you feel? you might need some hrt to help you through the rough time. it shoud start working soon and your hormone levels will level out. i hope you feel better soon

Pam,
I ache for you!
Is it possible that with the change in your hormonal make-up since the surgery that your depression meds are out of balance? I've never been on meds for depression, so I have no idea if they are affected by the hormone changes.
You might inquire of the prescribing doctor.
Hang in there.....this too shall pass!

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I will mention this to the doc at my six week. I didn't mention it before because it seems like I have a really bad day, then the next day is ok. It's like a roller coaster and for some reason, I'm always trying to convince myself that everything's ok, and normal people have bad days too. I just don't like to ask for help, I guess.
On a side note, I just want to tell all of you how much support I have gotten from every single post on here . I am on twice a day everyday since "the surgery" and I feel like I know so many of you. Thank you all for sharing and being such a great group of ladies. Oh boy, here come the tears again... (Yep, definitely going to talk to the doctor about this ).

Good morning, Pam!
If I were in your 'place' right now, I wouldn't wait until the six week post-op check with your doctor. Is this the doctor who has prescribed the depression meds? If not, I suggest you make an appt with the prescribing doctor right away to talk to him/her. Then, if you wait to see the hyster doctor at six weeks, at least maybe you won't have to spend more time on the roller coaster you didn't buy a ticket for....
Hang in there.....we're here for you!
