"Swelly Belly Band" do we really need it?

I am scheduled for a TAH on November 11, my pre-op is on the 9th ( two days before surgery) I see the advertisement for the Swelly Belly Band, but I am not sure I will need it. I don't want to spend more money than necessary. I am afraid that if I need one I won't have enough time to order one and have it delivered in time. Please advise...

Thank you all
many Hugs

Thanks for asking this!! I was wondering it as well! I've had C-Sections in the past, and have never used one. Are there pros & cons?

Re: "Swelly Belly Band" do we really need it?

so... it certainly isn't something the Dr. would oppose?
Thank you for your reply!

may I ask why you had a TVH in July then an Ovary removed in Sept?? why not at the same time? If I am stepping out of bounds no need to reply. I am simply asking why because I have been thinking about taking my ovaries out but doc says keep!

hugs!!

Jerseymilo... I had 2 previous C-sections and never used one but... i always wish I had tight PANTIES to hold the belly in.

Re: "Swelly Belly Band" do we really need it?

I did not order the swelly belly band, while my tummy is a bit swollen still, it's nothing I haven't been able to manage.

Forgive me for going OT, but the one thing I will swear by is my tummy pillow though. I love my pillow, right now it's my best friend. I love that it's in a tote bag, makes it easy to take along with me

Re: "Swelly Belly Band" do we really need it?

Actually, my only regret is that i didnt order 2.... I wear my SB Band all the time. I am 12 days post op and sometimes I wear both the SB band with my adb binder on top, just to hold everything in. On the days where I think I am better and dont wear my binders, I end up hurting and hunched over, but I can walk upright and better with my binders on. I freeze my SB band and covered it in a thin plastic bag and it brings the best relief of anything I have tried. It was and still is the best investment for me. In fact, I cant wait to get it out of the freezer right now to put it on...I just woke up. Time for the swelly belly band!!!

Its very light so thats a good thing. It is not like a heavy cold pack that gets to cold. You do have to wrap it in plastic wrap to keep the moisture away from any incisions though.

Re: "Swelly Belly Band" do we really need it?

I didn't think I would need the swelly belly band or the ab binder... Day 2 in the hospital, (TAH) after having a constant ice pack on my stitches, I placed my order. The belly band is fantastic, I use a cooler to keep mine cold and it gets less wet that way.

The ab binder is a must for me when I'm walking to avoid jiggling which makes everything hurt worse.

I never thought about putting the binder on top of the belly band. That will solve a lot of issues. Thanks TF73!!

Re: "Swelly Belly Band" do we really need it?

Well it sounds like things need to be "held" in more after a TAH then with a section. I guess I will be ordering one closer to my 1/6/10 scheduled date!!

Can I ask why it is that everything needs to be "held" in more then with a c-section, for those who have had both surgeries? I don't remember that much pain from the giggling, and my last section was 2 1/2 yrs ago. Thanks
