3 weeks post op LSH---bleeding?

Ok, I'm sort of freaking out! I had my LSH and BSO three weeks ago. I had always had a discharge, mostly colorless but with a yellow-y, brownish tint. At my post op last Monday, my doc said that was normal because he had cauterized my cervix closed. Well, last week it turned pink and it has steadily gotten pinker. This morning is was a leaning-towards deeper red. I'm nervous. I'm not in pain and I haven't overdone anything, except for housecleaning yesterday. Should I call my doctor? Is this normal? Thanks in advance.

Re: 3 weeks post op LSH---bleeding?

It is so hard to define what is actually normal. Yes, some bleeding and spotting is normal, especially around the 3 to 5 week mark. This is when the internal stitches are starting to dissolve and some women do experience bleeding when that happens.

The amount of blood is usually the deciding factor on whether it is normal or not. If you are just spotting (even deep red), it is fairly normal. Just try to take it extra easy for a few days and see if it subsides. If it heavy bleeding (like a full on period), it is probably not normal and you should DEFINITELY call your doctor. You could have torn your cuff or something.

As always, if you are really concerned don't hesitate to call your . It is your body and everyone's "normal" is different.

to you. I hope the bleeding stops soon and you can rest easy. Take care!!!

Re: 3 weeks post op LSH---bleeding?

Ok, this makes me feel a little better! It's not nearly close to a period. I really am only seeing it when I wipe, although I am wearing a pad (just because it makes me feel 'cleaner'? lol). I'm going to call when the office opens, just to feel secure. I didn't think about having inside stitches or anything, that is pretty ignorant of me! Thank you so much!

Re: 3 weeks post op LSH---bleeding?

You are not ignorant.... You would (and will be) surprised at how much you didn't know about the surgery going into it!! If it makes you feel better, I had no idea I had a vaginal cuff until I was almost 4 weeks post-op It had never come up in any of my pre-op appointments. I learned about it here!!!

Good idea on calling your doctor. I'm sure it is nothing, but it is always better to have your mind put at ease by a professional!! Hope everything works out fine for you.
Take care!
