Don't understand Doctor's Lingo!

Hi Guys,
Coming up to nine months. Time flies when you're having fun "not...."! Very tired and we can't get my dosage of progesterone and estrogen right. Am going onto a bit of tostesterone as well to try and combat this excessive tiredness and lack of sex drive. Physically I feel great (except tired) mentally I am yet to pick up again. So foggy and forgetful, it's driving me mad.

I got a copy of my discharge papers last week and can't understand them. I didn't think to ask too much at the time as I was doped to the hilt and the doctor only came twice and they sent me home. (had TAH with BSO) I am curious now as to what was really wrong with me. I have Chronic Pelvic Inflammatory Disease but my uterus & ovaries were normal. The rest is as follows:
Normal Left tube scarring within right broad ligament over round ligament-thickened.
round ligaments sutured and ligated.
peritoneum reflected and bladder reflected with blunt and sharp dissection.
IP ligaments ligated - 1 vicryl
uterine pedicles - 1 vicryl
x2 parametrial pedicles
vaginal angles - 1 vicryl
int 1 vicryl to vault
haemostasis
peritoneal drain
EBL 300mls

If anyone know what any of this means would be grateful. I asked my doctor who is a lovely lady but I can't understand her accent at the best of times.

Cheers, Gabi

Don't understand Doctor's Lingo!

I have discovered that doctors not only have their own lingo but it varies from region to region and country to country. Best that I can figure you had some scarring on your right fallopian tube. I'm not sure bout the rest of it. EBL 300 mls -- Estimated Blood Loss (maybe). Sorry I'm not much help. There seem to be a lot of nurses here. Maybe they can help.

Don't understand Doctor's Lingo!

Ligated means it was cauterized (burned).
Vicryl is the type of suture that was used.
All the other words describe parts or appendages off of the uterus.
Shortstop was right: EBL is estimated blood loss
and the other refers to scarring on the fallopian tubes.
Haemostasis (sp?) deals with the integrity of the area: no bleeding, pink in color, good blood flow through the area.
Hope this helps,
Nancy

Don't understand Doctor's Lingo!

Hi Naw,
Wow, thanks for the info, it seems that the only problem I physically had was scarring. Maybe that is what they mean by PID i was diagnosed with. (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease). Did not really find that much info on it before I had the surgery. I'm glad I had the surgery, best thing I ever did but am frustrated at the hospital system for lack of caring about patient info etc,. Thanks again
