do we need to get a tummy tuck after a hysterectomy?

I'm sorry for the question, but I read an artlicle about getting a tummy tuck with the hysterectomy. Am i going to need one does that means that my skin is going to be hanging? I'm 112 pound and 5'1 ft tall. thank you for your help

I am 5'2" 125 and I had tah bso and I now have a small skin flap over my scar I am 3 months po and have gotten back to workouts but I still have a small amount of skin hanging.

Nope, a tummy tuck is not necessary with a hysterectomy. In fact, rarely is a tummy tuck ever covered by insurance as it is a purely cosmetic surgery. Those who want a tummy tuck along with their hysterectomy are doing so because of current issues and must coordinate with a plastic surgeon (though some GYNs will do a mini tuck).

For what it is worth, I am 5'4/5" (depending on my posture) and 120 lbs and have been since my teens. My stomach is the same post hysterectomy as it was pre hysterectomy. The same is true of my mother so it could be good genes for me. Mine was LAVH, hers was a TVH.

If you have concerns, talk to your doctor before your surgery. A horizontal or vertical abdominal incision could make a difference on your outcome, but not likely with your size!
