I'm sorry you're experiencing this but you'll find you're not alone and I hope some other ladies will be along soon to share.

If you try a "search" (click third from the right on the purple bar, towards the top of this page) you'll find many posts to read through. Here's a link to one recent thread to start you off: https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...ight=discharge.

Please contact your doctor, though, if you're really concerned or if it doesn't improve.

Sending best wishes for a smooth recovery!

I believe that this is discussed on the checkpoints for weeks 3-4. Yes, I've noticed it and I hate it. I am now showering twice a day because of it and my dry skin doesn't like that at all. It reminds me of the smell of baby's rubber pants before the invention of disposable diapers. I don't mean dirty ones, the plastic just had a funny smell.

I understand that the smell is from the stitches dissolving if I read it right and should go away in a week or two.

Downyocean but you can call me Kay

Thank you so much for the info. I love this website it has been very helpful.
Today makes week 2 for me. I had the smell since i left the hospital but has been getting worse. They checked for an infection while i was there because my while blood cell count was up. I did not have an infection. Had my surgery done on a thursday went home on friday and was back in there friday night. I had gas pains so bad i couldnt pee my bladder was having spasms also. They also put my bladder in a sling along with a total hysterectomy. Does that mean they removed my cervix too? Again thank you

I think that the term total hysterectomy implies that they removed the cervix too but I am not an expert.

I'm sure someone will chime in here soon with a positive answer for you.

Yes, I know that stinko smell well! I had it royally within days of surgery and it lasted -- along with an on/off but mostly continuously steady gloopy drip for several weeks (sorry to say!).

Even though I do know its source was dissolving stitches, I also developed a bacterial infection which I'm sure was related to the amount of blood that dripped and festered in and around my labia....my surgeon agreed with my self-diagnosis/explanation..... so I adamantly urge you, if the stink continues and if you begin to feel ANY burning down there, to go see your doctor. Untreaded BV can really become a monster, and that's the last thing any of us need in our delicate post-op weeks.

P.S. My TAH included goodbye cervix. But I've read sisters report TAH who kept their cervix. Hmmm. Easiest to ask your doctor...no?

Hugs to all,

Siri
