Sex before 6 wk check up.

I was wondering if anyone here had intercourse before their 6 week check up? Been having problems with my husband wanting to go all the way. Finally last night I gave in and we did it. It wasn't painful last night but now I'm sore. I know it was probably stupid of me to allow it. Please help. It's been over 5 weeks but not quite 6.

Well what's done is done, but if it were me, I wouldn't risk it. You can do major damage by not getting the all clear from your doctor, if you are not healed. Now, perhaps you are healed, so maybe it will be OK, but you have no way of knowing that until your doctor does an exam. And the fact that you are sore, probably isn't a good sign.

For your sake, I hope everything is all right, but I would really urge you (and your husband) to wait until the doctor says everything is OK.

Best to tell doc, because it can cause infection to do that before you are all healed. Best wishes

I agree that you need to let your doctor know. Six weeks isn't a magic that hysterectomy patients are given to resume sex; it's a guideline. Most doctors want to do an internal exam at six weeks post op to make sure everything is healing on schedule. I'll never understand why some husbands pressure their wife into sex too soon. If there are complications, they may have to wait an additional six weeks or longer. Please share this hystersisters article titled "Hysterectomy: The Wait . Wasn't there a story in the forum about someone's husband penetrating right through the vaginal cuff and they had to have it repaired? I personally wasn't going to risk it.

You definitely need to call your doctor and get checked internally. I was cleared for sex at 8 weeks so some of us definitely are not ready at 6. Some women here have to wait much longer than that.

Your husband needs to consider the fact that having sex too soon can cause some very serious long term complications. How would he have felt if he tore through your vaginal cuff? There is no reason why he can't take care of his needs himself until you are healed. 6-8 weeks is not too long to ask him to wait so the woman he loves is not put in danger.

Yes, several. One case her intestines started coming through her vagina. Extremely serious and requires emergency surgery. Then the healing starts all over again.

Yikes. And I wasn't cleared unto 11 weeks.

I am scared to death to have sex! My Dr does not do pelvic exams to check for healing and I am starting to stress out. They said as long as you are 6 weeks, you are fine to have intercourse. I'm still having very slight bleeding so my husband and I have decided against having sex for now. He doesn't want to take any chances. I'm thinking I will wait until at least 8 weeks. If I am still bleeding by then, I am demanding an exam.

I had my 4 week follow up this past Tuesday. I was still spotting, not quite healed. Before surgery he told us no sex for 12 weeks. After my visit he stressed that absolutely no sex until the 12 week mark. Hubby whined about it pre-op but I also "whined" about me and what I will be going through in the 12 weeks post-op. That put it into perspective for him. Plus I read him the story. There are other ways to please a man. Hope you are ok.
