What is follow-up and what isn't?

At the time of my surgery my surgeon said to schedule 2 week and 6 week follow-up appointments. She was going to be on leave but would be back for my 6 week appointment. At 4 weeks I called the office about a possible yeast infection. I got the doctor on call and was told to make an appointment with him -- 5 days later. I was right it was a yeast infection (love love love diflucan!). All was better by the time of my 6 week follow-up the next week.

My question -- should that 5 week appointment be billed separately or is it included in the overall follow-up? The nurse mentioned it would be covered as follow-up. I just don't know if it was a billing error due to having to use 3 separate doctors or if it was considered separate because they found a yeast infection.

Re: What is follow-up and what isn't?

I had the same thing - went in to a new-to-me doctor for a yeast infection at week 5. I assumed it would be considered a part of the surgery follow-up but then got a bill for my regular copay.
