Advice on my upcoming hysterectomy

Hello,
I am 30 and just want some advice. I have a right ovary that's 3 times the size of my left and also double the size of my uterus with a mass almost it's size and is torked. It's also very painful. The DR is not saying exactly what it is. He wants to remove everything though. My sx is July 1st and not sure if I want it all taken out. I'm young and all I keep hearing is if it all goes then I need hormones and that's a nother mess. Lol any advice. I think if my left ovary is fine then leave just that

Re: Advice on my upcoming hysterectomy

I think it's best to keep an ovary, if healthy, for the natural hormone support. There are many reasons to remove them. If your doctor thinks your growth may be cancer related it may be best to remove both. I would have and honest conversation with your doctor and asks why he wants to remove everything. Get a second opionion if you disagree.

I am 31 and I'm sorry you are I so much pain. I am having everything removed myself but due to cervical cancer and endo. I have chronic pain most days and actually looking forward, although very scared. Good luck!

Re: Advice on my upcoming hysterectomy

Did you have a CT scan and what does the DR think the mass is? I had one ovary removed 4 years ago due to an abnormal looking cyst that once removed and biopsied it was a borderline serous tumor (cancer) and they didn't know until it was biopsied. I went into that surgery not knowing if I would have a full hysterectomy or just the one ovary removed and it turned out to be just one ovary. Now I am going to have a full hysterectomy this week with my other ovary removed due to large fibroids and my uterus being enlarged. The doctor doesn't want to take a chance. I am 36 years old.

I understand you are worried about being so young. I feel the same way. Read as many posts on this site as you can. It is very helpful and there are many woman your age that are going through a similar situation. From what I hear, HRT isn't bad at all. I will have to go through it myself and after my surgery I will go into instant menopause they said.

I wish you lots of luck! Hugs!!!

Advice on my upcoming hysterectomy

Thank you both for your reply. Yes I had a ct, and two ultrasounds. They say I have a mass on my rt ovary and fluid in my uterus I think. They say they won't know what exactly the mass is until they biopsy it after removed. They think it's some kind of cyst. But it have a mass inside of it. They did a cancer screening for the ca 125 I think it was called and was negative. I'm also concerned to take hormones. I've heard conflict ing stories on taking them. I like to do more natural things

Re: Advice on my upcoming hysterectomy

Ok, that is what they said to me. They didn't know what it was on my ovary until they biopsied it. I also took the CA 125 and it came up negative but the cyst on my ovary was an early form of cancer, so the blood test doesn't show all. I would ask if you can keep your left ovary if possible, but the doctor will probably tell you if they see it looks abnormal when they go in for surgery they will have to remove it. And do you really want to go in for another surgery in the future?

I am with you on the hormones, I will have to take them so I plan on starting with the synthetic kind and then possibly moving on to the more natural type if my body allows. I hope so! I like to be more natural as well, but we will see.

Re: Advice on my upcoming hysterectomy

Is your doctor a gyn/oncologist? If cancer is suspected I would definitely go with one if possible because they can check right there while on the table for cancer. Either way I would get another opinion. Even if there is not a gyn/onc close to you, most doctors know ones they can send your records to and get their opinion.

like the others said, if at all possible keep the other ovary - but take the tube. Of course if one shows to be malignant cancer then you will want the other gone.
