Re: Leg pain/ blood clot fear?

With only 5 patients ahead of you I can't imagine they would make you wait 8 hours to be seen. Unless there was a major catastrophe or an epidemic in your area that's almost unheard.

It's not a good idea to wait to see if it's a blood clot. If it turns out that it's not that would be great. If it turns out that it is, sometimes even an ambulance isn't fast enough. Please have this checked out if for no other reason than your peace of mind.

Re: Leg pain/ blood clot fear?

I was exhausted and frustrated but today is another day, I'm hoping I feel better tomorrow but if I feel the same I'm going to call my family doctor. I'm just disappointed with the doctor who did my surgery, he's a great doctor with a lot of experience but he's not great communicating, he still hasn't called me back from Friday night.
I guess all this stress has made it impossible for me to relax enough to have a BM I'm going to try to relax to see what happens, I had my Hysterectomy Wednesday at 7:30am and still haven't had my first one, I've been taking Colace since Thursday and drinking lots of water, but nothing yet.

Thank you all for your support!

Re: Leg pain/ blood clot fear?

I had my LAVH on Friday the 23rd at 4:00 p.m. My first BM was on day 5. I started taking a stool softener the day before surgery. I did a lot a walking, plenty of fluids and the first one was still a bear. The stool softener didn't kick in until the 3rd one. But, if you relax and let it happen in its own good time it will be better. Don't push!!! I didn't win any awards for speed but I got the job done. Keep taking the stool softener and keep things soft and it makes it a lot better. I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time with your doctor and your ER. You shouldn't have to deal with things like that as well as trying to heal. Hang in there, each day will show an improvement.

Re: Leg pain/ blood clot fear?

If you are still having leg pain you need to either go to the ER or call your doctor. Don't wait for him to call back. Doctors usually have an answering service that picks up the calls on weekends or after hours. Tell them it's urgent, that you are having leg pain. If you get no satisfaction then call the ER and ask to speak to the doctor on call. You need to have any leg pain checked out to be sure it's not a clot. I don't want to sound like an alarmist, but I had a DVT at 3 weeks post op. I was told repeatedly that it couldn't be a clot because I had no swelling or other symptoms. My only symptom was pain. Please don't ignore leg pain. Blood clots can be fatal.

Re: Leg pain/ blood clot fear?

Having just spent a week with my mother in the pulmonary unit, I would highly suggest that you insist on an ultrasound of your legs to check for blood clots. This is not to be messed around with.
I say that, but I am 4 weeks post op and keep having sharp pains at the top front of my thighs where i bend to sit. So, I question that. It comes and goes.
Good luck to you.
