Anyone else given very minor restrictions?
Had my LSH (kept ovaries) on 9/29. My doctor just told me not to lift anything that required 2 hands..... <15 pounds max, other than that, just listen to my body and take it easy for a couple weeks. He said I could take a bath, swim (I am a Master's swimmer), walk as I felt like doing, just no heavy lifting, and he had mentioned no running for 3 weeks either, that was at a pre-op. I will see him in 2.5 weeks (at 3 weeks out). I have been walking around the house a lot and in the yard at least once a day and am just taking motrin now, but I am laying down for several hours a day resting, but I can't seem to take a nap.
I think I am coming down with a cold and the sneezing does not feel good on these incisions! One side is a little more tender than the other, and the middle one doesn't feel like anything, but it had the most bleeding, weird!
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else's doc was so laid back! He did give me 3 weeks off work, but since I homeschool, that isn't exactly going to happen, lol!!!

Re: Anyone else given very minor restrictions?
Hi,
I thought my doc didnt say much about restrictions, but I mentioned the other day to DH, and he said actually she said quite a bit to him, and me, but I was apparently on morphine and dont remember, so you may want to double check. I do remember a specific resrtiction being no bath or swimming for 12 weeks b/c of vaginal cuff and an epesiotomy(sp?) like cut down there- maybe less restrictions because of different surgery? not sure. Either way you should take it easy. I have seen women on here who had the LSH and overdid at like the two or three week mark and are now paying for it. Healing is still going on internally, even if you seem fine, and that will sap a lot of your energy in the coming weeks.

Re: Anyone else given very minor restrictions?
I did a hysterectomy and my Dr advised to take 4 weeks from work if I had a sit down job, but since I don't she suggested six weeks from work. She said I should walk everyday it helps with the circulation and no lifting or driving for at least 4 weeks - after that your body will indicate/speak to you.

Re: Anyone else given very minor restrictions?
My doc also told me that if I wasn't able to do something easily & comfortably with one hand, then dont do it...He also told me no swimming or baths, no sweeping or mopping, no stretching etc...I'm 4 weeks post op & still tender, tired etc, I can do some more things as well now but need to be careful not to push things...believe me you will know about it if you do.
So please take it easy & rest, rest, rest

Re: Anyone else given very minor restrictions?
Sneezing was so painful for me...a tip I was given on this site was as you feel a sneeze coming on push your tounge up against the roof of your mouth & rub your nostrils with your finger...I did try this & it worked for me & saved me a lot of pain

Re: Anyone else given very minor restrictions?
I think it depends on the type of surgery and I assume the Doctor knows you, like my Doctor knows me. (very well) She gave me the okay for more aerobics (no jumping) at 2 weeks, and no heavy lifting over 15 pounds. I like the 2 hand rule, but might not apply to me since I was lifting much more than 15 pound sin my classes, I can easily pick up a 20 pound weight with one hand. (maybe not now)

Re: Anyone else given very minor restrictions?
I was given no official restrictions when I left the hospital! I had an LSH as well. They just told me to take it easy and listen to my body. I didn't drive until I wasn't taking narcotics anymore, but other than that I just kind of eased back into it. Did steps as soon as I got home (POD3), went back to driving on POD5, was doing laundry etc. the first week home, carried a 25 pound bag of dog food in the house that second week. I will be three weeks post-op tomorrow and have been given the green light to resume anything I feel like doing. I love it!!

Re: Anyone else given very minor restrictions?
hey again-
as far *** coughing or sneezing- a pillow held tightly against your stomach will help to keep you from the worst of the pain.
I was throwing up 5 days post op due to infection and I think I would have dies without my pillow. Also helps when driving over bumps!

Re: Anyone else given very minor restrictions?
I think it's an LSH thing. The surgery is much less invasive so our restrictions tend to be minimal. Any I did have were lifted at my 2 week checkup.
I was back to work part time at 1 week and full time after 2. At 4 weeks I was in my regular clothes and feeling better than pre-surgery.
