Anyone noticed heightened sensitivity to smells?

OK, this is really weird, but I am one week post-op and I could swear that in the last few days I have acquired a heightened sensitivity to smells. Has anyone else experienced this?

I had SAH/RSO so I still have one ovary - no hot flashes, mood swings or other menopausal symptoms. For pain I am taking only otc ibuprofen - no narcotics for several days.

Anyone noticed heightened sensitivity to smells?

That was something that I noticed too. I could smell things so much stronger than everyone else around me. I could even smell things no one else could. Mine finally settled down and went back to normal. I don't know what caused it, but I was given oxygen for awhile in the castle through one of those "in front of your nose" tubes. I don't think I had ever had it before and I wondered at the time if that might have caused it.
Take care!

Anyone noticed heightened sensitivity to smells?

Nancy,

Thanks for your reply - I also had oxygen at the castle for the first 24 hours and had never had it before - interesting idea that the oxygen may have caused it.

I made poor DH wash all his shirts because I thought they all smelled bad!!

After making the post I happened to catch a show about pregnancy while channel surfing. They were discussing the well documented fact that woman's senses of taste and smell change with the hormone fluctuations during pregnancy, so it also makes sense that they could change with hormone stuff during menopause, especially the sudden changes from surgically induced menopause.

It is reassuring to know that yours went back to normal after a while. Although compared with other hormone problems this is really not so bad.

Anyone noticed heightened sensitivity to smells?

I have noticed a change in my sensitivity to smells as well as touch. My skin seems to be very sensitive. My clothes even feel different when I am getting dressed. I just thought I was crazy!
