Little/No Support - Advice?

Tomorrow I will have my TAH-LSO surgery date.

This is my 3rd GYN surgery in 3 years, and 6th abdominal surgery in 12 years. Two c-sections, gall bladder, endo, bladder & uterine prolapse, and now hysterectomy.

I have very little support, don't have contact with family (because of past abuse), and no friends I can talk with about my feelings. How do you work through the ups and downs of preparing for such a major surgery? It's one reason why I joined this site, and while there is great support and information, I wish I had someone I could talk to face-to-face with. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

My husband is okay, but doesn't get it, and I'm mobilizing my three kids (ages 9-18) to help out.

Re: Little/No Support - Advice?

Seems like you need to demand more from the people in your life . . . your husband and your friends. Someone who is there and who knows you has to be able to listen and you have to demand that now.

If that fails, perhaps counseling/therapy. Hystersisters is fantastic but doesn't take the place of having someone who knows you. It will be a Godsend as you heal. When you are out of the hospital, the post op threads are fantastic. So, awe are all here.

Re: Little/No Support - Advice?

Sassine,

Thank you for your reply and suggestion.

I am in therapy and I'll utilize that as best I can. As you wrote, it doesn't take the place of someone who knows me and can physically be there.

It's frustrating to go through this alone.
