Consideration of Options

Hi Sisters!
I am now 4 weeks postop laprascopic subtotal hysterectomy for uterine fibroids and uterine myoma (discovered in the pathology report). I spent years trying every concievable treatment options to avoid this and must say - I am so glad I proceeded with my hysterectomy! I feel great! I was driving within a week of coming home and started a gentle yoga class and have been working out in the gym. My biggest complication was thrombophlebitis from the intravenous site - which showed up 2 1/2 weeks postop!

So - here's my advice - ask your doctor if he/she/anyone is doing the laproscopic procedure! I was very fortunate to have a doctor who is not only skilled but believes in searching out all options for women! I had been with the same physician for years in Seattle - moved to Portland and was blessed to find my surgeon. She has only been doing these for 18 months but my recovery has been remarkable!

Thank you all for your endless support in ways that you will never know! I would be more than happy to hear from any of you via e-mail at gbgg@aol.com!

With love,
Bonnie

I had the SLH too. Isn't it amazing? I'm sometimes embarrased to write about my "recovery" - since it was more like a vacation in my backyard reading mystery novels and drinking lots of liquids, taking walks, and putting my feet up. The "pain" post-op was more like the feeling you get after doing about 50 situps when you usually do none.

Here's hoping more women are offered this option in the very near future.

I am so glad to hear you are doing so well. I am in the
process of deciding whether I should have a LAVH. Reading
about your experience has helped to give me a different
perspective than I previously had. I realize that not
everyone has similar experiences with things, but it is
very comforting to know that this type of procedure doesn't
have to be as invasive as I thought!
Take care, and thank you for sharing!!
