Question regarding a pet

We have a puppy that is really active. I'm concerned that he is going to be jumping up on me when I get home.

My husband said that he, his sister who is coming to stay with us and my kids will do their best to keep him down. Any suggestions on a way to protect my stomach just in case?

Thanks!

Re: Question regarding a pet

put a pillow over your belly. That should help.

Our "Puppy" is a big 80 lb one and a half year old and she plopped the full weight of her head on my belly at about 3 wks after surgery. Boy, did that hurt!!!! For the day after too. I wondered if I was bleeding inside but that was just my paranoia. lol So ya, a pillow would have definitely helped!

Re: Question regarding a pet

Yes! A pillow has saved me many times from my 95 pound golden retriever. I also think they somewhat know you are in pain. Mine has been pretty good.

A pillow, I have two large labs and they sensed it. They just gently laid next to me But...a puppy is another story! I would also recommend the binder! Things aren't as easily pushed around. Good luck! <3 lovmypups!

Re: Question regarding a pet

yes, a binder, but don't wear it all the time Your belly muscles need to learn how to work on their own without the reliance of the binder. I wore mine for about a week or so all day then switched to night only for week 2, then on some nights in week 3 and then nothing after that. Everyone's different though

Re: Question regarding a pet

A pillow really helped me. But the biggest help was having someone with me for the first few days to let the dog in and out and to give her attention when she wanted to sit on me.

Re: Question regarding a pet

We don't have a puppy but put cat walked across my abdomen which I've been protecting with a pillow yesterday it was uncomfortable but not majorly painful so I second keeping a pillow close by and maybe resting on a separate room from the puppy if no one will be there to stop the puppy from jumping up. (I'm 3 days out TLH)

Pillow. Also, good time to work on teaching the puppy that NO means NO. It's never too early to start on that one with an active dog.

Re: Question regarding a pet

besides the pillow, one of those table trays is great! My husband bought one at Bed Bath & Beyond for about 20 to 25 dollars. It came in handy as a guard from my cats and to put books on, food, etc.

Re: Question regarding a pet

Try having your puppy on a leash at all times. It's so much easier to get ahold of him and keep him from jumping on you. I also have a puppy that is super affectionate and loves to stand up and hug me. I was worried about this same thing. My hubs and children kept hold of his leash when I got home so I could greet him without him jumping and so they were better able to control him. Also like other have mentioned it's never to late to start training some basic commands. Hope this helps and good luck
