3-mths post lap myomectomy and doc now suggesting a LAVH!

Hi all,

I had a laparoscopic myomectomy in Oct 2013 to remove a pedunculated 17x10x12cm fibroid (aka evil twin). I declined a hysterectomy at the time as there was no suggestion that the lap myo will not resolve the issues. Doc went in and found 6 fibroids (pedunculated and intramural) but only removed the evil twin and 2 others. Initial feelings post surgery were great! However, in Dec, I started having the same issues again with extreme period pains and general crappy wellbeing. Doc sent me for a scan 2 weeks ago and we found more fibroids. More concerning, one of the fibroids left behind appeared to have grown from 3cm to nearly 6cm.

I have been given 3 options - do nothing, go on drugs to stop my period for the next 15 years (plus HRT), or have a hysterectomy. I am confused and angry that the initial surgery has not worked. I am 40 years old, have no kids and not even planning kids, but I am getting emotional at the idea of losing my uterus. I am not prepared to do nothing, nor am I keen on drugs. Logically, I think that the hysterectomy will resolve my issues and I am slowly working through my emotional issues at the moment. No date has been booked in yet.

Is this normal to be told that the laparoscopic myomectomy has not worked and to be told to have a LAVH? Did you go through with a LAVH after?

Does anyone here taken the option of inducing early menopause over surgery? What is it like? How long have you been on this therapy? HOw long have you been told you have to be on this therapy?

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I appreciate any info you can share.
