My Decision

I thought I would post an update to what decision I came to. I was scheduled to have my surgery done Tuesday (the one that just went by) but I canceled and have postponed it for a bit.

Since November of 09 I was bleeding every day ... it ranged from spotting to hemorraging. In the past 6 months I have had a few procedures done (removal of large inner uterine cyst..d&c...novasure ablation) and kept on bleeding. Apparently I am prone to cysts as every time I have an ultra sound done they find a new one, but they don't believe those to be a source of the non-stop bleeding any longer. As soon as I was scheduled for the surgery the bleeding stopped. Right after I had my last biopsy I had a "from hades" period, but it only last 3 days and then I was done. Nothing at else since, my energy has been higher, and basically I have felt great. After reading a lot about the ablation and hitting up the forums for folks that have had them done, it seems as though what I have gone through is pretty normal. So, I have decided to give my body some more time and see what happens. See if I have another period or how long it lasts or if the bleeding has truly stopped for good. As of a month ago, when the Dr did the last biopsy, she said that the ablation did work as I have basically zero lining in my uterus left. If I bleed again without stopping then it will probably mean that the problem is within the walls of my uterus. That would mean that it has to be removed. Unfortunately, there is no way to test the walls without removing it and sending it off to the lab.

The more I thought about it all and the more I read up on both the hysterectomy and the ablation, the more the surgery felt like the wrong thing to do right now. At this point, it feels like I need to prove to myself one last time that either yes things are super messed up inside and this is the only thing left to do, or that the ablation did what it was supposed to do and my body is finally responding the right way.

Either way this plays out, I am so glad to have this board here. I've whined and vented a lot. It is very nice to have a place to go where people understand. I'm getting aggrivated with friends who mean well, but haven't gone through any of this.

Re: My Decision

I hope it gives you the results you want!!! Even if down the road you need the hyster, you will know in your heart that you have exhausted all the other options and won't have regrets or "what ifs" in the back of your mind like you might have had you gone through with the surgery this past Tuesday! Good for you on taking your time and doing what you feel is best for you!!!

Re: My Decision

I was told before my surgery, that once I made the right decision, I'd find peace. And I believe I did. Sounds like you didn't and rather than have regrets, like daisylily said, exhaust all other options and you can always reschedule when it's right for you.
Good Luck and I hope that it's not needed for you.

Re: My Decision

I just joined this board today. Interesting to read your story.

I had Novasure abllation on 12/22/2010.... I have been bleeding, pinkish ischarge since...except for about 4-5 days. I went to the doctor today and he did another endometerial biopsy. Make sure no CA he may have missed on the last biopsy 12/2010. If not CA (and know I'm praying) then might try the mariena (sp?) IUD... or hysterectomy.

So I think I'm about a month behind you. Are there others out there with the same experience?

Re: My Decision

Thank You ladies for the support. I really do appreciate it.

Kat, I had my ablation done at the end of October. I had some amount of bleeding until the end of January. So far, it has stopped.... my fingers are crossed it's gone for good.

But, if it's not and won't stop as before, then I will be on the phone to the dr to reschedule the surgery.

Kim I believe you are right. I was up and down about the surgery all along, even before it was scheduled. But as soon as I decided to wait it out, I was at peace.
