Swelly Belly After 5 Months

OK, I did something really stupid. I went on the Cardio Glide and did 250 reps under 7 minutes. It felt great, until the next day. My incision above the naval, which had finally stopped hurting, has become really sore again, as well as the muscles around it. I'm also started to ache throughout my belly, as though everything has been pushed 2-3 months back healing wise.

There's also a bruise now below and to the left of my naval. I called the doc and am waiting for a call back but would like any input on this. I was feeling so good and went completely overboard. No problems with 40 min. on a treadmill, which I have been doing the last 3 weeks with no problems. Just the cardio-glide, which scrunches the whole mid section.

Please tell me I didn't do something serious Hubby says maybe you popped a stitch but I really don't think any stitches are left after all this time. Many thanks...

Re: Swelly Belly After 5 Months

I hope you are doing better. Maybe it was scar tissue and it was pulled.

Let us know how you are doing.

Re: Swelly Belly After 5 Months

Thanks for replying. I did get a call back from the surgeon's office. I was told that I shouldn't have gone on the cardio glide until at least 8-9 months after surgery as it works the entire surgical area (actually crunches it, which is why it is a wonderful exercising machine and gives a very intense workout). I distinctly remember asking her about it back in late January and she said it would be fine. I had decided to wait until last week to be safe but apparently it's still too early. Perhaps she did not know what type of machine it is. Thank heaven the treadmill is still fine as the movement is totally different and is normal for the body.

Your theory about the stretching of scar tissue sounds and feels about right. Muscles feel OK and now it's just mostly that pesky above navel incision that still hurts. Getting slowly better.

I really swelled up Tuesday like I swallowed a melon! Thankfully it went down. Guess I am just so anxious about getting back in shape. The treadmill is not that intense for me but at least it burns calories.

BTW I was told that it takes about 1 year after surgery to really heal fully. So patience is what's needed, I guess.

Again, thanks for the concern.

Re: Swelly Belly After 5 Months

Glad to hear you are okay. I started with the treadmill and did gentle sit-ups at home for some time.

Yes, for some of us a year is about right.
