Questions about hysterectomy after failed ablation

Hi. I had a NovaSure ablation and Essure coils inserted in May 2011 due to heavy, prolonged (but painless) bleeding. I've had a lot of problems since: severe pain mostly on the lower right side (had appendix removed 20 years ago), bleeding, bloating, nausea, severe constipation, feeling full, etc. I was even hospitized last April with an ileus and megacolon (of the cecum). Within the past year, I've lost 50 pounds without trying.

Last summer, I had a D&C to remove what appeared to be a polyp on the ultrasound only it was really dense scar tissue from the abalation and my uterus was badly inflamed. A week of doxycycline seemed to clear it up, but my symptoms have since returned. I have an appointment with a new GYN next week. I'm ready for a hysterectomy if that will put an end to this madness.

But, I have some worries....

My biggest one is adhesions and scar tissue outside of my uterus and possible bowel involvement. Are most women able to have minimally invasive surgeries following a failed ablation?

A CT scan in October showed a large cyst on my right ovary. I'm not ready for surgically induced menopause and am hoping to keep at least one of my ovaries, but again I'm afraid of adhesions and scarring.

Thanks in advance for any advice or insight anyone can offer me.

Re: Questions about hysterectomy after failed ablation

Hi snowbear
I had the nova sure 3 years ago, and can honestly say it was the worst thing I ever did! Hence why I am now getting over a hysterectomy! Stopped my bleeding for about a year and then boom problems galore with a lot of pain for the last two years. I had to have abdominal but this was due to a scarred shut cervix due to lletz treatment. I was told that if my cervix had been open I could of had the op vaginally.
Hope this helps a little
Xxxx
